Fantastic, now the Tigers can spend 7 more years making the playoffs and generating excitement with Verlander only to see him (and them) choke in the playoffs. Bravo. And for only $200 million!

Well he can't do it alone but the team is setup to make a run for the next few years which is all you can hope for when paying a lot of money to be put in the position to win and hope you can win the World Series.

$26 million a year for 7 years is insane for anybody but especially pitchers. Absolutely insane.

The problem is we have the New York Yankees to thank for letting player salaries get out of control. Since Justin Verlander is the best pitcher in the game in the opinions of a majority of people including myself then he is going to want to be paid like that. If salaries didn't get so bloated up he wouldn't be able to get this but if so and so is making $22 million a year as the highest paid then he would want to one up him being if he's considered the better pitcher.

Say what you want but starting pitching is extremely important and any pitcher capable of being a 20+ game winner each year is a crucial element to a team.

One this is for sure Justin Verlander has way more value at what he's being paid (as large as it is) then what the Dallas Cowboys just wasted on Tony Romo.
