Suggestions on how to avoid incidental holds at Las Vegas Hotels?

I will be staying at Vdara next weekend. I understand that they place a $140 a night hold on your credit card if you are going to charge things to your room and $100 flat if you will not be charging things to your room.

Any ideas on how to talk the front desk to not charge me an incidental hold?

    This usually works,

If its a debit card tell them that you don't have a ton of funds and it takes 3-5 days (which is true) for the left over amount to get returned to your checking account. On a side note never use a debit card when checking into a hotel ever. Usually they may offer you option for cash deposit or lower the amount on your card.

If its a credit card let them know the total credit limit is about what your stay will cost. The main thing is let them know you have had issues in the past with front desk holding to much on your card and it being a pain to get returned to your account in a timely manner.

    Good luck

Why not just put down a cash deposit? They will typically let you do this.

Why do you need to avoid incidental hold? Not enough credit?

No I have plenty of credit. I just believe that they hold too much. I guess I am asking just out of principle.

If that is the case, then you really shouldn't even be worried about how long they hold it,
just mistakes they charge, then not getting refunded (or the time it takes to get the refund).

Do the cash thing like Druff said, then check out in person.
