    The Greatest

Every sport eventually produces a one of a kind talent that is remarkable. A talent that is head and shoulders above the rest, for the ages.

Right now that person is soccer phenom Lionel Messi. I know soccer is not mainstream here but that doesn't matter.

To watch an individual do things on the field of play that is indeed great should attract everyone. Messi is laughably a god on

the field. He makes all around him look like little leaguers. If you have a chance, watch any match he is involved with because it is truly great.

I think it's fair to say American football and Baseball have no such "greatest" presently.

I used to feel sort of privileged to be able to watch Tiger Woods play golf live. I figured he would go down as the undisputed all-time greatest, perhaps the most dominant player of any "sport". And I was watching it happen in the moment. Maybe he still will, but it sure sucks that his career has taken a downturn.

I was a little too young to truly appreciate Jordan, but it's pretty cool that I was kind of around for that.

American Football is a little different because there's so many different positions. You can't really say that any individual was ever the best football player. But if you break it down by position, there have been players that were men among boys. Deion Sanders comes to mind.

Baseball does have figures that were ridiculously dominant for their time such as Ruth and Cobb.

I don't really follow Hockey, but my understanding is that Gretzky was basically unstoppable and embarrassed people.

I thought he was in a horrible slump ever since the infidelity thing. Is he back in championship form?

He won last week. Whether he's back to Major Championship form is up for debate.

I think he was in major championship form last year. He just didn't win any. Not easy to go out and win majors when there are so few of them to be played.

Yes he is. Similar to the gap between Lebron and Durant (BIG gap) but much bigger. I really don't like to watch Barca games because they make all other games/players shitty by comparison.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo is in contention for the second best player ever. I already think Messi is the best footballer of all time. Anachronists get prickly about these statements but numbers don't lie and he is succeeding against the greatest era of soccer talent ever.

Watching Messi (and Barca) rip apart AC Milan was stunning. Champions League was looking to be more interesting without Barcelona in the mix but we're probably headed toward a final with some combination of Barca/Bayern/Real

Keep in mind I said greatest. And of course there are debates about the greatest but none of the players shown here would be described as the greatest imo.

I don't even know who the first guy is.

Sorry but they all look kinda the same to me.

And again, a big problem with American Football is Star power unrecognized. Unavoidable but still.
