365 days on site is still going strong
PokerFraudAlert opened to the public on March 3, 2012, so the anniversary is technically tomorrow.
I would like to thank all of the people who have pahticipated in this site over the past year, as well as the many who have donated to our radio freerolls.
When I started the site a year ago, I had a number of goals in mind. Some, but not all, have become reality.
Goals that have become reality:
- Provide a clear, easy-to-use forum where scams and scandals in the poker world can openly be discussed. I feel this has been accomplished. The Scams, Scandals, and Shadiness forum has covered a number of such situations over the years, sometimes even "scooping" 2+2 and covering issues that were not brought up over there (or were brought up and ignored). Many have praised this forum as a concise, easily understandable forum where they could learn about all of the shady crap in the poker world without sifting through hundreds of pages of nonsense on 2+2's NVG forum.
- Develop a regular radio show that both focuses on poker scams/scandals and entertains the listener. The radio show got going in May. While we have had some issues with the consistency of co-hosts (Vwls dropped out after a few months, and Drexel has been mostly absent in 2013), the show has gone on nearly every week, and has generally been met with positive response.
- Provide a mostly-free-speech general discussion forum, which is safe to browse at work and is mostly free of garbage. The Flying Stupidity forum is mostly comprised of former NWP and DD users, but I feel that the content has reached a "happy medium" between unmoderated chaos and overcensorship. People are free to say what they want, but nobody has to worry about pornographic or shock pictures popping up while they're at work or among mixed company. Very few people have been banned, and for the most part, the users here have been respectful of the rules here.
- Provide a forum with useful features which is free of bugs and major problems. The forum got off to a rocky start in its first month, dealing with repeated "internal server errors", and I had to switch hosts. However, I think this forum is now quite stable, and provides a number of features typically absent on vBulletin forums without being overly busy or difficult to use. We even have our own little free poker room, which is primarily used for the radio freerolls.
Goals that were NOT accomplished:
- Provide a radio show free of technical difficulties. The radio show suffers from a number of cut-outs and disconnects, aggravating live listeners and perplexing the ones listening in the archives. Some weeks are worse than others. This is an issue at the location where I usually broadcast from, and I'm still looking for solutions.
- Expand the site's audience far beyond those that have followed me here from NWP/DD. While I'm thrilled that many people involved with NWP/DD chose to sign up for the forum and listen to the radio show, I was hoping to attract more "outsiders". While we do have a number of new users that came here independent of NWP/DD, there's no doubt that this site could definitely use some more new blood.
- Give pahticipation points, good for prizes and Druff WSOP buyin pieces. I never implemented this, and now I'm not sure if I'm going to.
- Prevent scams from happening on this site. I guess it's hard to stop this sort of things when the site is full of adults who want to trade money with one another, but we had two scams here since the site started. One, involving "TheTemplar" was relatively small-time. Unfortunately, we had a bigger and more shocking one involving Jasep, one of our more active users. I'm hoping PFA's second year to be scam-free.
Again, thanks for being part of PFA, and this site will continue on for the foreseeable future.
It has been a year and i dont have a hat!

Did you forget about Vegas1369 got scammed by JSearles and CraziestMike?- Prevent scams from happening on this site. In related news, there are posts on Donk Down's front page that are 4 months old.
I would say that PFA successfully tumble-weeded that site.

If Druff didn't limit that limitles he would have more posts then him but of course the forum would suffer from it.
wait....I thought there was some picture of someone who looked like Kurt Cobain and liked soccer in this thread.....what a waste of time.
