I did the same shit. I wrote the most awesome fucking intro in the world. I got super bummed when I realized it was just a finger-picked version of "Chop Suey". Fuck me running

That Led Zeppelin 1 thing is just how blues guys did it back in the day. Everyone in that genre just messed with other ppls songs, covered them, etc. It's all in the interpretation imo.

Anyways Flaming Lips ripped off Cat Stevens:

I prefer "inspired by" to ripped off.

    Crowe/Kunt?

Let's face it - The Black Crowes are basically 1 big rip-off schticky band who wrote 0 good songs, and basically made bad versions of good music

Makes no sense. Train Kept a-Rollin was a cover song anyway.

I'm talking the specific riff at about the 20 second mark of Honey Hush...is blatantly ripped off by Aerosmith...not the entire song which is just a remake of the Yardbirds version of TKAR.

That's crazy. The yardbirds were doing those same train-sounding string bends years before, as many had done before them. They all listened to the same music, they had the same influences, and they played the same covers. And the foghat tune didn't even some out before the Aerosmith one, pretty sure, but it doesn't matter anyway.

It's ok to say you don't like something. No need to go full retard in your criticism. Unless you were serious, in which case your opinion is pretty suspect from here on out.

Since we are on the subject of the Black Crowes, here is one of my favorite Bootlegs from my vast collection. Read the notes while listening.

On January 8, 1994, Chris Robinson and Marc Ford of the Black Crowes participated in an impromptu performance with a handful of other artists. They dubbed themselves Foamfoot and performed a one-off show at the Troubador in Hollywood where they played classic rock covers. The show was recorded for potential release, but was never officially released. High-quality bootlegs, however, have circulated widely for years among tape traders and Black Crowes fans, in general.

    The lineup consisted of:
-Chris Robinson (vocals, harmonica) and Marc Ford (guitar) of the Black Crowes
-Jimmy Asshurst (bass) of the JuJu Hounds and (after Foamfoot) Buck Cherry
    -Andy Sturmer (drums) of Jellyfish
-Eric Bobo (percussion) who played with Cypress Hill and the Beastie Boys
-Gary Louris (guitar) of the Jayhawks
-David Crosby (vocals & guitar) of the Byrds and Crosby, Stills, & Nash (and CSNY), who joined the band on stage to perform the CSN classic, “Long Time Gone”

    The setlist included:
    Walk in My Shadow (Free)
Bottle Of Red Wine (Derek and the Dominoes)
    Tin Soldier (The Small Faces)
Take The Highway (Marshall Tucker Band)
    Deal (Jerry Garcia)
Love Me Til The Sun Shines (The Kinks)
Long Time Gone (with David Crosby) (Crosby, Stills and Nash)
    Jemima Surrender (The Band)
One Way Out (The Allman Brothers)
Presence of the Lord (Blind Faith)

    Walk In My Shadow

IMO - Robinson is one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time. Top 10.

When I read that post my first thought was how many knives will it take to express my displeasure with an opinion that is so bad it is factually incorrect. Four is good.

One of the things that struck me was how Chris talked about Rich, said the kid was a genius. He wrote "She Talks to Angels" when he was fucking 16. The band is incredible live and they have recorded a ton of shit and withstood the test of time.

Plasir d'Amour, written in Jean-Paul-Egide Martini in 1784 had the theme used by Elvis Presley for the song "Can't Help Falling In Love with You" in 1961 which was featured in his movie "Blue Hawaii", classical composer Hector Berlioz also orchestrated the song into one of his works in 1860 or so

Walt Disney & Co took a Tchaikovsky theme from the ballet "Sleeping Beauty" and put it into is own movie of "Sleeping Beauty" as the song, "Once Upon a Dream"

"Sugartime" was a pop hit in 1961 by the McGuire sisters bears a strong resemblance to a song Chico Marx that he used to play in the 1930's called "I am Daffy Over You", which also is strong similar to a etude by Paganni that he wrote in the 1800's

and even Mozart took the child's song "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and wrote an number of variations on the theme for a piano piece of his

my point, musical rips offs are old school too
