    *** Official Oscars Thread***

I think Lincoln will take best picture, even though I found it boring and revisionist. It's just the kind of movie the Academy loves. Daniel Day-Lewis is definitely a shoe-in for best actor.

I'm rooting for Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) for best actress, but they probably won't give it to her.

    What are your pics?

I, for one, can't wait to see which nominees did the best job sucking up to the Academy elitists this year!

Argo will get best picture. Hollywood honors itself for saving those hostages.

Spielberg will get director for Lincoln.

Very good point. If I was betting on this I'd go with your pics.

Saw most of the Best Pic Nominees. They got it right on cinematography just now. Carbonsports has Argo at 1/8 mass favorite with Lincoln at 4/1. I took a $5 flyer just for shits and giggles on Les Mis simply because of all the movies I thought it was the best overall and probably one of the best movies Ive seen done in years. To bring the power of the broadway production and surpass it was amazing.

What exactly was revisionist about Lincoln?

Lot of historians say he was personally a racist - that's the story I would have liked to have seen on film. It would have been controversial, but much more interesting.

I am glad your position on issues or thoughts on everything has stayed exactly the same your entire life.

It is well documented that his meetings with Frederick Douglas had a huge impact on his views of Blacks. Three days before he was shot he proclaimed that he supported the rights of blacks to vote. You know who was an the audience that day? John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln standing in front of a crowd proclaiming that Blacks should have the right to vote is what killed him.

I could go into a lot deeper conversation but by the time period this film covers, he had some of the most liberal views of his times.

It was sort of a bet, and sort of me dominating the field like a young Boris Becker.

I racked up 8 winners with:

    Best Actress
    Best Animated Feature
    Best Foreign Film
    Best Original Score
    Best Makeup & Hair
    Best Cinematography
    Best Visual Effects
    Best Short Film

No big deal, no big thing. Just made Gary so mad he ditched half way through to bury his anger in steak sandwiches, thats all.
