    Question Photoshop alternative

I'm just looking to merge three photo's together, putting a head from one pic onto a body of another. Nothing fancy. I can't remember the name of the package I used on my old PC. What opensource package would you recommend trying? I'm playing with paint.net now and getting frustrated.

With paint.net but you need to RTFM to get the most out of it.

I guess you didn't mean to post this in SS&S.

The GIMP is the balls. Not the prettiest program, but fully capable of pretty much everything you ever need to do.

Has GIMP significantly improved in recent years? I tried it years ago and really hated it, but lately it seems to come highly recommended.

Gimp is pretty awesome and free. Great for copying/cloning, healing, and blurring -- 90% of your needs. Photoshop seems to instinctively fix things where Gimp needs a little more finesse by the user. PS $600, Gimp $0.

I use mspaint to crop and move and GIMP to clean up or blur.

I have photoshop but it keeps telling me I have it on more than 2 computers so I can't use it right now.

ctrl copy click mouse to copy area
click band aid ctrl click on any spot and then click mouse to heal skin

gimp is generally considered to be a near analog for photoshop these days. personally i dont care for it too much, i find the interface in PS slicker among other things, but a lot of seasoned graphics heads are like gimp all day.

I used Paint Shop Pro 9 forever before I finally switched over to Photoshop. I still use it now and then.
