Computer Help Needed - HP Compaq 8510p

About a week ago my laptop stopped charging, I shut it down with like 20 minutes of battery life left and ordered a replacement ac adapter and power cord online.

Power cord arrived and still won't charge. Now it won't even turn on.

My plan was to pull off as much as I could from my hard drive in those twenty minutes but now the charging light indicator just blinks a couple times when I hit the power button. Won't charge or turn on.

Did some research online but there doesn't seem to be a clear answer to what could be wrong. I swapped out the c2302 bios battery from an old laptop but that hasn't changed anything.

The charging socket looks very clean and undamaged btw.

Any fixes I will doing myself since taking somewhere to get fixed will be expensive enough to where just buying a new laptop would be better.

Any thought or suggestions to what could be wrong would be appreciated.

Even if a solution isn't found, I expect to at least get a hof 408 post or two out of this.

When my last laptop shit the bed, I never had the chance to pull my shit out before it died. It was a Lenovo. Got me an new ASUS, popped out the new hard drive, popped in the old laptop's hard drive, and it started right up. Put everything I needed on a few memory sticks, and I was good to go. So even if you can't fix the old laptop, its pretty easy to get your info off the hard drive so long as its the same general type as the new laptop. I think, anyway. Worked for me.

I've been lucky enough to be able to do that in the past. This hard drive has different connections

From what I read, mb is def a possibility which is why I swapped out the CMOS battery. Problem has nothing to do with the main battery as the laptop still won't turn on with the main battery removed and ac adapter plugged in.

willie from my knowledge and experience, i think your MB has a short or is just shitting the bed. it will need to be replaced or you need to buy anew laptop. (if you dont wnat to buy and replace the MB yourself)

The best advice I have is to take a shotgun to it and blow the fucker up because Compaq sucks.

But the alternative is if you can't get the laptop working you probably can take the hard drive out and buy a usb enclosure to hook the drive up to another computer for getting the data.

I'm not sure how old this laptop but I wouldn't stick a lot of money into an old one based on the prices of new ones today.

It could be your replacement adapter is not delivering the required power.

    From the manual:

Blinking rapidly: An AC adapter with a higher power rating should be connected.
Check the power output on your new adapter compared to the old one.

Just want to clear one thing up first. The battery you put in as a replacement had a charge right?

If so it is your motherboard most likely, either way on most laptops the motherboard and power supply are one unit. Although if it is the power supply and you are handy it is fairly easy to fix with a little solder.

My best advice would be to buy a hard drive enclosure off Amazon or Ebay and put your hard drive into it and connect it to your new, sexy laptop that you will be buying. Transfer the information off and go all Office Space on the old one.

does the plug wiggle at all when it is plugged in? would be surprised if it isn't a dc jack problem.
sounds like the laptop doesn't mean much to you so you will probably want to yank the drive and throw it in and external enclosure like abrown said.

if you do feel like playing with the soldering iron...
