If you were a skater in CA or the west coast in the 80's, Dogtown was the shit. All the good skaters came from Dogtown or Santa Cruz. Dogtown actually is the area in the in-between of Venice and Santa Monica. Barry is correct - the Dog Town/Z Boyz docu is the best way to sum up the area albeit in a film medium. The area is a ghetto by the sea. It's actually pretty fucking great though less so now. Lot's more people who want to be part of the Venice crowd now that the killings are less frequent...you know what I mean.
