Yeah I saw this last night and Colbert and was going to post it but they didn't have it up on their website. It was a great segment.

I watched it a few times and understood maby 1/3 of what he said. What is "straight out of dog town" mean?

    He said it twice.

Most probably referring to Venice Beach, CA. I heard some people referring to the central valley from Bakersfield to Sacramento as dog town, armpit of CA etc, but Modesto is in the middle of the central valley so that doesn't make much sense.
There's a great documentary called Dogtown and Z-Boys about the birth of modern skateboarding in Santa Monica and Venice Beach.

You can watch the whole movie here-

If you were a skater in CA or the west coast in the 80's, Dogtown was the shit. All the good skaters came from Dogtown or Santa Cruz. Dogtown actually is the area in the in-between of Venice and Santa Monica. Barry is correct - the Dog Town/Z Boyz docu is the best way to sum up the area albeit in a film medium. The area is a ghetto by the sea. It's actually pretty fucking great though less so now. Lot's more people who want to be part of the Venice crowd now that the killings are less frequent...you know what I mean.
