    Girls

So, Girls is currently more or less the funniest/cleverist shit Ive seen on TV in about 20 years.

I think Louie is superior artistically and intellectually, but the writing/dialog in Girls is peerless right now, its got soooo few weak moments.

What Im wondering tho, do I enjoy it so much because I "get" it from being in/around Brooklyn/NYC for most of my life? I went to college with people _exactly_ like these characters, Ive had roomates _exactly_ like these characters, Ive dated chicks _exactly_ like them too.

And whenever any of my friends are like UGH GIRLS *EYEROLL* its always the same complaint; "They are trying so hard to be some sort of pop-ironic Sex In The City" and what I always feel like trying to explain is that Sex In The City was an attempt at pop-ironic urban mythology about these exact types of people, and it failed in that regard, mostly by dumbing them down for broader appeal (no pun intended).

Where is PFA weighing in on Girls these days?

    Love it!

I watched it for the first time in a marathon on HBO leading up to the 1st episode of this season. I can relate to nothing in this show but can't stop watching.

I agree on this one - watched them all a couple of weeks ago after a random recommendation. Top top.

These are 2 strong endorsements. I have HBO, but have never even thought of watching it as I assumed it was Sex in the City for 20-somethings. I will give it a shot in the next week and then weigh in.

Does this show get better after the first episode? The first episode was too painful to watch for me so if it does then I might give it a shot again but if it stays the same then I don't think the show is for me.

    100%, yes.

I was underwhelmed by ep1 too. I cant guarantee youll enjoy it once it starts to hit its stride of course but it went funny supernova for me.

It's probably not for you. Every show needs time to hit its stride but the template is there form the 1st episode. I laugh out loud multiple times each episode. Watch Ep. 6 from season 1. Brilliant.

I need some kind of reassurance that Girls is at least on par with Pawn Stars before I will allocate my scant free time to watching it or no dice. I literally watched 5 back to back episodes of Pawn Stars today and other than that it's football gun shows or I watch movies so if you're literally telling me my Pawn Time would be better spent with a couple hours allocated to watching Girls then I will report back with how great it truly is. Warning you now though, I am highly skeptical...

Recent episode was easily the best of the season. I honestly was worried that the show was slipping a bit after season one but am fully back in.

Does loving Marnie make me a despicable person?

Same here. With that strong of a sonatine recommendation it's a no brainer.

I tried a few episodes of Shameless. It's not that it's bad, but it just wasn't for me.

It's just so relentlessly bleak that I couldn't get into it.

Just sayin I only have so much TV time allotted for the day and right meow Pawn Stars is reigning supreme *although* I think last night I caught a bit of a slip up that is making me suspect the shit might be scripted. Firstly chum lee just can't be totally naturally- chum lee, secondly no fucking way does some bozo walk in with a uniform I might have sewn myself a week ago AND WALK RIGHT OUT WITH 30 GRAND ON THE FUCKING SPOT. The pawn guys call in some schmuck who claims to know old baseball cards and stuff and walks right in and declares ON THE SPOT, VISUALLY that a uniform *MUST* have been issued to Willie Mays hands down no question. He then declares it to be worth $40 grand shakes hands and the dude who owned the uniform walks out with 30 large.

Now, either the baseball guy is in on the con with the dude who had the jersey or the whole fucking thing is scripted I mean GTFO here folks. I am still on the ropes and if I come to find out chum et al is scripted and fake- I don't know what I'll do.

This thread is officially about the possibility Pawn Stars might be scripted.

And I can't find Girls on any fucking tv channel, how do I find this damn show???? I genuinely want to watch it.
