    Girls

So, Girls is currently more or less the funniest/cleverist shit Ive seen on TV in about 20 years.

I think Louie is superior artistically and intellectually, but the writing/dialog in Girls is peerless right now, its got soooo few weak moments.

What Im wondering tho, do I enjoy it so much because I "get" it from being in/around Brooklyn/NYC for most of my life? I went to college with people _exactly_ like these characters, Ive had roomates _exactly_ like these characters, Ive dated chicks _exactly_ like them too.

And whenever any of my friends are like UGH GIRLS *EYEROLL* its always the same complaint; "They are trying so hard to be some sort of pop-ironic Sex In The City" and what I always feel like trying to explain is that Sex In The City was an attempt at pop-ironic urban mythology about these exact types of people, and it failed in that regard, mostly by dumbing them down for broader appeal (no pun intended).

Where is PFA weighing in on Girls these days?

    Love it!

I watched it for the first time in a marathon on HBO leading up to the 1st episode of this season. I can relate to nothing in this show but can't stop watching.

I agree on this one - watched them all a couple of weeks ago after a random recommendation. Top top.

These are 2 strong endorsements. I have HBO, but have never even thought of watching it as I assumed it was Sex in the City for 20-somethings. I will give it a shot in the next week and then weigh in.

The most realistic show about 20 somethings ever written.

Does this show get better after the first episode? The first episode was too painful to watch for me so if it does then I might give it a shot again but if it stays the same then I don't think the show is for me.

    100%, yes.

I was underwhelmed by ep1 too. I cant guarantee youll enjoy it once it starts to hit its stride of course but it went funny supernova for me.

It's probably not for you. Every show needs time to hit its stride but the template is there form the 1st episode. I laugh out loud multiple times each episode. Watch Ep. 6 from season 1. Brilliant.

For the record I think Lena Dunham is a horrible, horrible, irritating, horrible person but I cannot front on her work.

I'm in the extreme minority in that I like Girls, I don't LOVE it or HATE it like most.

Lena Dunham is brilliant and the writing/editing are excellent but some of the scenes/characters just don't work for me; Jessa getting married, Adam, Marnie and that weird art guy etc.

Overall really good though, almost like a poor man's Louie

The Marnie / Weird Art Guy subplot is far and away my least favorite.

I absolutely hated that wedding episode with Jessa but last night made me appreciate it and why it happened and what it was required for.

Oh shit, forgot it was on last night. Def catching up tonight.

Do you like Adam? I think he's well written and the acting is great but the character is just too strange to be taken seriously, at least before last night's episode. I feel like 75% of Adam would be exactly the right amount and the additional 25% of eccentricity almost ruins it.

The female cast looks so ugly.
Did not enjoy the show at all.

I guess it's not for me. I might try it again if I can't find anything else new to watch that interests me.

Right now I started watching the new netflix exclusive series called "House Of Cards". It's about politics and all the manipulation that goes on. I'm only three episodes in and have enjoyed it thus far. Kevin Spacey is the main character and so far he delivers.

I tried the first 3 eps of it and just didn't enjoy it enough to keep watching. I wouldn't call it bad by any means, just not for me.
