The weirdest thing are the people stacked up right at the doorway, unable to take just a few more steps to safety.
I got stuck in a crush like that one time. You look at it and think, oh come on...you guys can just move a few feet, cant you?....but you cant. All the assholes behind us kept pushing, which causes everyone to fall forward, and you end up on top of people, BUT, there are people on top of your legs, so you cant move either. Everyone is just stuck until people can pull you out. Its a helpless feeling. We got lucky because we were near the front (we were coming IN when a huge fight broke out and everyone charged towards us).

Chilling, indeed. Amazing how quick the fire/situation turned from bad to hell on earth. I saw this randomly a while back, and was moved by it. The lack of men at the doorway pulling people out, anyway they could, pissed me off. I've been in mob scenes at concerts and know what it's like to get pinned, so it wasn't hard to grasp the panic of those poor people. Nevermind, the fucking bouncers who didn't let people out the side stage exit. Band only? GTFO!
I did read that a few of those people on fire in the doorway, were in fact saved, albeit scarred heavily. One lady survived with back/scalp burns back in the hallway, pinned and protected by others bodies.
