I quit drinking sodas back in 2007. I forced myself to stop drinking them and then MADE SURE that I ALWAYS had ICE COLD AC...er, WATER in the fridge at all times. If I was low, I would refil the bottles from the sink and put them in the fridge so that they were all ready any time I was thirsty.

Im 41 and its a real bitch to keep the weight off. Im about to diet as well, after being in pain for the past 8 months and being bed ridden for almost 7 weeks. Post your weight every week so we can humiliate if you start to stray.

No penalty. But I'll do it. Even if this is an epic fail and either I give up on it or I stick to it and the weight loss is nonexistent.

Mad Dad is correct that the exercise will only have a minimal effect on the weight loss, but I need it anyway, so I am incorporating that.

I think this plan is conservative and not too extreme.

I could say that I am going to do a major lifestyle change and completely cut out the Pepsi & orange juice, vigorously exercise, and end the fatty food consumption, but there's no way I could manage that over 4 1/2 months. It's too abrupt.

I picked a plan that I think has a moderate impact on my life, but is reasonable to keep up.

I am already feeling it because I really wanted an orange juice this afternoon and instead grabbed a bottle of water.
Best way to start something like this is to slowly cut things out until they are cut out completely

This is such an obvious betting opportunity. All we need is somebody to set a line say for 4 weeks from now and then we can start the action. After 4 weeks, we can set another line for 4 more weeks, and just keep it going for as long as there is interest and Druff is willing.. All Druff needs to do is tell his weight at the end of 4 weeks. Rather than making it too complicated with odds, we can just pool the over and under and split the losing side with the winning side.

    Yes?

Druff could be leveling us all into wagering about his weight loss, knowing someone will bet he GAINS weight, and then that person will send over Pizza Delivery to him twice a week. WIN.

Get rid of soda and take a 45 minute walk nightly and you won't have to change anything else. Pepsi/coke are the devil. Don't eat late. Thirty pounds in that time frame is real easy, even with a young kid.

Druff if the tasty sugary drinks are your weakness go to a Zero drink like Vitamin Water or Powerade. There is also flavored bottled water out now that is 0 0 0 across the board but is sure as shit is better than plain water. Plain water is great for a thirst quencher in a pinch but I would rather gouge my eyes out with an icepick than drink it all day every day.

Vitamin water Zero has 0 calories and only 4 carbs a serving (no sodium)

Powerade has 0 0 0 0 nothing at all but (100mg of sodium)

You will never know the difference between these drinks and a normal sports drink, taste exactly the same.

I would also recommend buying some protein powder, mixing a gallon at a time (with WATER) and drinking that with meals. Water is going to get very old and it will not fill you up like water with a couple scoops of protein powder will.

You MUST prepare meals ahead of time also. Make a certain time of the week designated for cooking meals. When you make something, make enough for a week of meals, stick it in some tupperware in fridge so when you get lazy it is a 1 min microwave session away.

Gouge yourself with complete shit food once a week, just to keep your sanity. If you are eating 5-6 good meals a day/35-40 a week you can get away with it and it actually helps.

Oh and one final thing, eating out is OUT. That is not an option, as restaurants shove huge portions down your throat so they can charge more and you also have no idea what the nutrition facts are of the food you are eating. Eating out or ordering food is done with.

230 to 200 is very easily doable in 5 months if you are even moderately dedicated.

I really do believe people that drink that diet soda shit regularly are playing with fire. I bet in 10-20 years they are going to find out so many types of cancers and diseases that is linked to regular consumption of diet soda. It is like how smoking was 50 years ago. No big deal at the time and now it is thought of as a death sentence with long term use.

I dont trust any of that shit.

I use to weigh something like 230-240 and been 185 for 7 years. It actually isnt too hard and you dont need to diet.

If you dont want to do hard exercise just take a walk for an hour or two a day. Lots of veggies and water. If you dont like the taste of vegetables gets some spinach, kale mix it with fruit and coconut water and blend it up. Or nuke the greens in microwave to make them smaller.

If you eat a hamburger for lunch, get rid of half the bun and then eat a salad for dinner.

    LOTS of water.

I think you may just need to simply replace soda with water and that may very well be enough to shed a ton fo weight.

People have this idea that you need to suffer to lose weight. You really dont.

so this....... i balloned to 167 last xmas and got down to 129 by april i basically stopped eating carbs(20grams a day) no pasta, no bread,no potatoes,NO FRUIT either(fruit super high in sugar)

i ate any meat or fish....broccoli,green beans,or cauliflower(no corn or carrotts super high in sugar/carbs) lots of salad with vinegar or squeezed lemons and oil, lots of cheese and i ate adkins snack bars, and no pop switch to the crystal light packs and 16oz waters

as far as exercise, i speed walk/run 4miles a day(obviously i didnt start at 4, worked my way up to that) and bang out 200 sit ups or crunches(alternate daily) a day

you will lose 8-10lbs the first week and avg 2-3 lbs loss a week after, this is a hybrid version of the "adkins" diet, but i can 1000% guarantee u will lose the weight. yes it sucks but what diet doesnt! half assing it wont get it done, you need a solid plan and then u need to stick too it!

    good luck druff

That is a recipe for disaster, and it is no wonder you lost all that weight because a lot of it was muscle if you kept that 20 or less carbs up for an extended period of time.

Ultra low carb diets are fine for a brief period, but are NOT good for the long term.

If you are still going to drink one orange juice before going to bed (I do not recommend it, but you know yourself better than anybody else and if that must stay, it must stay).....do not drink any orange juice out of a carton or bottle or from concentrate. Make yourself buy oranges and make the juice fresh yourself and drink right away after juicing. Most of the orange juice people consume in america is not actually orange juice. If the juice you drink has been pasturized (i.e. brought to a quick rapid boil), then it has lost most of its original characteristics and has been turned into something else. While the calories may not change, I think drinking fresh oj rather than boiled oj well have a positive impact on you. Plus, the experience of buying the oranges yourself and juicing (and clean up) yourself will also have a positive experience. Futhermore, I think that end of the day glass of oj will give you more pleasure than it currently does. My guess is that if you tire of making the juice, you may be able to satisfy your craving by eating an orange or two rather than juicing six of them. That would be a very positive change and you still allow yourself your pre-bed orange jonesing.

I used to have a problem drinking way to much pop in a day, it's very difficult to kick because of the caffeine but once you kick it you aren't really looking back. I'll drink on average about 5-6 16.9oz bottles of water a day. Toss in a juice smoothie 2-3 times a week as well and you'll be feeling pretty solid in no time.

Just cutting out the pop alone you'll see big changes after a year

So the real question is what are we setting the line at for Druff to be down to 200lbs by WSOP time?

To be realistic that is only 30 pounds in a little over 5 months so I guess it might be too soon to set the line but then again we could add the side bet whether he quits the diet or not.

Depends if hes "Live at the Bike" or not.
When faced with a difficult decision, ask yourself "What would Micon do?", then do the opposite.

If this was a prop bet where Druff has money or coupons to win I would say he's odds on to get it done.
If no money is in play I would say he's 5-2 or higher.

It's too much weight to lose in too short of a time for no money incentive.
If he was giving himself a year then the odds go down to 6-5.

Losing the weight is just half the battle.
The bigger challenge is about making the lifestyle changes necessary to prevent gaining the weight back.

Rule of thumb, don't ever listen to 408 advice about this topic.
