I've saw Donnie Iris more times than I can count because he's from around me. I've seen him play for 10 people, but most memorable was this one in high school. The opening band went on to a wee bit more success than he did.

[QUOTE=BeerAndPoker;120193]This one is as well at least to me:

Prince started out with them, interesting interview of The Time

And this one is probably one too. The only reason I remember this shit is because of some funny parody mocking songs that came out afterward:

It's a bit more complicated than that. Prince and Morris Day pretty much were The Time.
The band was assembled under a clause in Prince's contract with Warner Bros. that allowed him to recruit and produce other artists for the label. Inspired by the 1980 film The Idolmaker, Prince decided to put together a pop-funk group that would serve as an outlet for material in the vein of his own early albums, while he explored other genres and styles in his own career.

The band went on to release four albums (mostly performed by Prince + singer Morris Day alone) during the course of their main career, each a solid slice of jammy, rock-infused 1980s funk, generally light and humorous in tone, strongly influenced by Parliament, James Brown, Sly – and, of course, Prince.

    One hit wonder for sure.

Timbaland is one of the most well respected producers in hip hop and rap and OneRepublic is not a one hit wonder. Great song but it belongs in the "songs you like" thread.
Probably correct. I hear this song time and again and I believe its one of the top 10 songs from a forgettable band in the last decade or so. There are some driving songs that just take over. For instance, the 'Life is a Highway' song. I caught some shit for that a couple years ago.

Red Rider or Tom Cochrane were NOT one hit wonders. Red Rider had many hits & Tom Cochrane as a solo artist had many hits.

A one-hit wonder can be defined as an individual or group who had limited success in the US in spite of wide success in their home country.

Tom and Red Rider fit the bill Hockey Guy. It's not a slight, one-hit wonders are GOD.

I understand the concept of one-hit wonders but when you search on youtube & there are 5 pages of good songs by the artist/artists in question.......

I consider one hit wonders to be when you search them on youtube & you might find a couple songs but usually there are like 10 versions of the one song they're known for.

Tom Cochrane & Red Rider had numerous Top 5 hits in Canada that for whatever reason didn't receive sisgnificant radio airplay in the USA. A lot of them were also in heavy rotation on MTV in the states.

I graduated high school back in 1997 and this was the class song. This is definitely one of the biggest one hit wonder songs of all time:

Certainly they are not one hit wonders in Canada, but they are textbook wonders in the US.

There are plenty of artists that have had fine, long careers but would be considered one hit wonders. Again, I don't consider it a slight.
