    Poker Cheating?

    Hi all,
Brand new here and am not sure if this is the appropriate spot for a discussion on cheating methods and how to spot them.
I'm referring to things such as marking, altered decks collusion etc.
Not stuff so much for big tournies but stuff to look for in your smaller games.

It's important to always be alert at the poker tables. Without writing an absolute book, just look for out-of-the-norm behavior, and if something doesn't feel right pay attention to your instincts:

    1. A player moving his hands under the table
    2. Are they cradling the deck with their entire hand (mechanic's grip)
    3. Are two players constantly involved in all of the big pots
    4. Are two players making a lot of eye contact
    5. Does a player stare at the down-cards as they are dealt or when they are on the table (could be looking for marks on the cards)
    6. Does someoned always (or a majority of the time) winon their deal
    7. Does a player seem to fumble when he shuffles, or use the "grandama shuffle"
    8. Find out who brought new players into the game

    Steve-O,

Can you elaborate on what you meant by "grandama shuffle?" I figure you probably meant to type "grandma," but either way, I don't know what you're referring to.

    Raylan,

This video ( ) should help familiarize you with some of the cheating methods you may run into in the private game. The gentleman demonstrating these moves is considered to have been (now retired) the finest and most knowledgeable consultant on casino game protection. Don't let that fool you though - his knowledge spans FAR beyond the casino realm.

The "Grandma" shuffle is what I call people who 'strip' the cards from one hand to another instead of doing a standard riffle shuffle; I'm sure it has a technical name but I've always just called a Grandma shuffle

That would be the "overhand shuffle."

    good topic OP and welcome

DanDruff has a history of exposing cheating in poker and is mentioned in this post re: Russ Georgiev an admitted poker cheat allegedly turned Casino security expert:

    http://groups.google.com/group/rec.g...77e02656eb2499

"I listened to Todd Wittelles, (aka “Dandruff” - a top internet player),
talking about all this with Lou Krieger on Lou’s “Keep Flopping Aces”
podcast. Todd says you have to watch yourself and always be wary of
possible cheating when playing online. I suspect Todd is right.
