Another School Shooting - This Time in Taft, California

"A student armed with a 12-gauge shotgun opened fire in a California high school on Thursday, critically wounding a fellow student before two staff members talked the boy into putting down his weapon, authorities said."

"An armed police officer is normally assigned to Taft Union High School but was not able to make it to work on Thursday because of snow on the roads, Youngblood said."

It looks like he was targeting 2 fellow students & them only although he had plenty of ammo.

I once was forced to spend a night in Taft. I was driving south on Interstate 5 in February of 2009. The CHP closed down the grapevine due to snow. I figured that I can get off the 5 on the 33 and then it would take me to the 101. However they closed the 33 at Taft. Taft is a town in the middle of nowhere with nothing going for it. One thing that I foumd out that Taft has the highest rate of skydiving deaths.

There was actually a movie about both the town of Taft, and Taft High School was a big part of it.

And it was a comedy.

And the city of Bakersfield was the villain.

And it starred Robin Williams and Kurt Russell.

I thought of this movie as soon as I read the school name. Was the real Taft HS featured in it?

On a funny sidenote I remember Kurt Russell's significant other, Golie Hawn, had her movie "Wildcats", another football related movie, released at the same time as "The Best of Times". She appeared on David Letterman to promote it & David badgered her into admitting that Kurt's movie was better than hers. It almost made her cry. It was pretty epic but I can't find it on youtube.
