In a story that could only happen in Florida, a subway employee was fired for refusing to put ketchup on a man's sandwich, then threatening to fight the man. Lawrence Ordone was terminated from an Orange County, FL Subway after refusing to put ketchup on a Philly cheesesteak that Luis Martinez ordered. It probably didn't help that Ordone threatened to knuckle up with Martinez as well.
Martinez ordered his sandwich with "American cheese, onions and ketchup," but Ordone had a fundamental issue with applying the condiment. To his credit, he said Subway doesn't even have ketchup. Ordone says Martinez began "mouthing off," which made him lose it.
Martinez says Ordone "shoved a chair to the side," which translates to "Come at me, bro" in just about every language. That's when Martinez admitted that his heart began to pump ketchup, just a little bit: "I was scared. Next thing, I'm thinking a gun's going to come out."
Martinez alleges that Ordone threatened to kill him in front of his wife, but delivered one more classic quote before the tense exchange came to an end:
"There's ketchup three aisles down. You can go buy your own ketchup, and I promise to God, you can put as much as you want on it and nobody's going to say nothing."
The customer is always right, but some will view Ordone as a hero. Even though a simple explanation for why he couldn't put ketchup on the cheesesteak probably would've saved his job.
