First lets start by explaining who Russ is. Russ is a self-proclaimed
poker cheat who also posts under the screen name GCA, a large majority
of which are posts on cheating. He also has written some strategy posts
as well as some question posts.
Lets look at his cheating posts first. Some are on how to spot if you
are being cheated or different scams people run. These posts are pretty
informative and receive no criticism unless they contain names. Most of
his cheating posts are blind and wild accusations about famous poker
players and card rooms. I heard from a friend who heard from his sister
who is sleeping with so and so that he is a cheater, is a typical post
from Russ. Here is where he runs into trouble, Russ feels, much like in
the movie the Wizard Of Oz, that there is a little old powerful man
pushing the buttons and pulling the levers of the great and powerful
poker world. And the powers that be refuse to let any of us behind the
curtain to expose him.
This line of thinking is how individuals place blame for their failures
on others, the white male that blames affirmative action for not being
able to get the job he wants, when the real reason is he got all Ds in
high school and is not qualified. Or a black male that says a white
person got the job they want, when the reason is they have 2 felonies on
their record. (These examples could easily be switched please don't post
any political correct nonsense) or a woman who says her job went to a
male, when the reason she was fired was because she was late 20 days in
a row.
Russ blames a quote unquote "poker mafia" for his shortcomings. He makes
up for these failures by writing strategy posts that are in appearance
well thought out. Unfortunately none of his ideas are groundbreaking or
unknown to any quality player. He rarely goes into depth to explain the
reasons these theories work. The few times he does his thinking is
almost always slightly flawed.
Russ also posts very misleading and slightly confusing questions, which
he challenges the powers that be to answer correctly. Most will not even
attempt to answer because of the disingenuous wording, making them
subject to his attacks. Those who do answer the questions are often
right in their thinking and Russ then will claim they have no idea,
because with his wording of the question there could be many answers.
While he claims to be a world-class player, and laughably backs this up
by showing how he can sometimes beat a $30 table on party, much like his
cheating posts he has never REALLY backed this up. Beating a $30 table
on party is not proof of a WCP.
Russ is a classic eccentric, holed up in his house fearing the
assassin's bullet. He uses words like, they and conspiracy all too much.
Like an inmate in prison he has too much time on his hands and lets his
mind wander into strange unusual places. He has taken a real life
problem, cheating in poker, and turned it into a global conspiracy, when
the reality is it is but a small problem, like steroids in baseball.
Russ craves being in the spotlight so he has duped people into believing
he is "in the know" about things they are not privy to. Most of these
weak minded people can often be found in cults as well (that's a scary
thought Russ the cult leader.), wanting to be accepted "I believe you
that there is a poker mafia, will you be my friend?". Rational adults
expect proof, innocent until proven guilty, a bad clich but fitting in
this circumstance.
Russ will claim in his response to this post how he played in and
scammed the biggest games around, and he knows everyone else does too.
This is much like a drug dealer claiming he only knows scumbags or a
movie star who only knows celebrities; the classic case of you know what
you yourself are. If you happen to be a poker cheat/scammer a lot of
your acquaintances will also happen to be the same.
