I don't get it. Why give the guy a few months to turn himself in to serve his sentence, and then assign him to a maximum security prison? He has no history of violence, his crime was white-collar, and he is only going to be serving 5 months.

That's a rough draw, but he needs to shut his mouth and get off the internet now. The last thing he wants to do is broadcast that shit. Information about the outside world makes it's way inside, and if they know he's some short timer/millionaire from the suburbs married to a playmate there is going to be a line to punk his ass out. He needs to keep his head down and do his 5 months and save the twitter for when he gets out.

I would request solitary. 5 months without human contact would be a small price to pay to make sure my family and I are out of harms way.

Chad Elie, the man facing a prison term for his role in the processing of illegal online poker payments, has earned a slight reprieve from Judge Lewis Kaplan.
Having been originally sentenced to five months in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, Elie will now serve his punishment in the less intimidating surroundings of Taft Correctional Institution.
Kaplan decided to grant Elie a transfer after his attorney argued that a stint in the notorious maximum security prison in Brooklyn would make his stay unnecessarily difficult.
Indeed, while Elie wouldn’t have been housed with the facility’s toughest inmates, the institution’s strict policies would have granted him fewer privileges than other places.
In contrast, Taft Correctional Institution’s minimum security status means that Elie will be able to see much more of his family – including wife and former Playboy model Destiny Davis – when his time inside begins in a few week.
Pleased with the news, Elie took to Twitter (under his alias “@BlackFridayChad”) to inform the poker community.

If you have never listened to the Joe Rogan podcast with Victor Conte, I'd highly recommend it. Very interesting stuff all around, but one part in particular is of interest here.
Taft is the same place Victor served out his sentence, as well as where Tommy Chong spent a stretch. If there's any such thing as "easy time," our boy Elie got it.
cliffs: This jail didn't even have fences, they had signs pretty much saying "don't leave." Drugs, alcohol, all manner of sports available, even the female guards were available for extracurriculars.
Starts pretty much right off the bat, 10 minutes in.
Shit he was about a cunt hair away from being Mrs. Elie for five months.
Completely ridiculous that he was in the situation in the first place.
