That was a joke, I said something like I am going to go back to school just for the loans.... I didn't really look at that as a legit option until yesterday.
I don't know the exact details of Emily's student loans but I know it is a huge issue in her life and is one of the reasons she is handcuffed to her lower middle class status. She actually does something incredibly important as a society contributor, yet she only makes around 30K after 4 years of full time college at Uconn, and another 4 years on the job kinda sad, i doubt she can get those loans off her back anytime in the next decade.
I am also not super up to speed on politics and all that stuff, but I do know that she had to turn down a 1.50 an hour raise because it put her in a weird spot where she would spend more in health care a year because of her income than she would make up for in the raise amount by a lot... which on the surface seems kind of a fucked up thing to me.
Pooh, you have any interest in doing recorded phone conversations with me? I kinda have an idea for you to be a supporting member of the project with weekly or bi weekly phone conversations giving me some perspective on the future etc.
lol. I appreciate the offer but I don't think that would make very good radio. I'd be too afraid to sound like a moron. I'd be happy to meet up with you sometime if I ever get back to Ct...not likely until next June.
I don't want you to think that I'm like the most successful person around here and I'm the be all end all when it comes to advice. I had a very small net worth ten years ago. Less than 8k actually. It all started for me when I made about 30k on a condo I owned in good ol Bristol Ct. Home of Kev's wife. I lived there for 30 yrs. From there I invested my life savings into a business in FL and the rest is history. Only NBH here knows exactly how I did it and what I do but I'd like that to remain private.
If you do go back to school this is what I would do. Def don't go to a place like Bryant where the cost is prohibitive. Go to URI or another state school if there is one. Get good grades. I went to CCSU. DO NOT major in something you will not be making great money no matter how much "good" it will do for others. Not a slight to anyone else but 30k with major loans isn't +EV.
You're the type of guy who is excellent in Math so being an Actuary is an obvious choice. Boring job? Sure. Will you make 100k straight out of college? Possibly. Definately will within a few years.
I want to make it clear also that I am doing this publicly for a reason, a very, very good friend of mine offered to loan me money rather than invest in the project last night and I declined, I want to earn and document the process... there isnt a person who can say I don't open up publicly about very private aspects of my life and this is another example of that.

Johnny,
I know I have given you this advice before, but I am going to give it to you again. It is pretty simple. What is your passion, and how can you make a career out of it.
