    Annie Duke being Annie Duke

    http://www.sun-sentinel.com/entertai...,2736249.story

"In order to help players up their game, noted pro (and “Celebrity Apprentice” runner-up) Annie Duke will lead a poker-instruction camp next weekend at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood.

It’s called the World Series of Poker Academy, and costs $999 to attend. Go to WSOPAcademy.com.

Hagstrom says this is the academy’s first venture in South Florida, which has seen its share of poker camps, including DeepStacks University and the World Poker Tour Boot Camp.

But it’s the first camp for Duke, who has won $4.2 million in tournaments and is a popular player on TV, along with her brother, Howard Lederer.

“She’s just been in the poker game awhile. She understands it,” Hagstrom says. “She’s had big wins and bad beats. She’s very hands-on with the students, and explains it to students.”

She’s also become famous after taking a bad beat in the 2009 finaled of “Celebrity Apprentice”: Donald Trump fired her in favor of Joan Rivers."

Oh Realllllly! So when someone peppers her with an Epic Poker question is she going to dust off her old UB lines??? Oh wait, this timed she can't claim to have known nothing at all! I also love the that she AND her brother are popular players! What did this get written in 2004????

In Aruba in 2009, the last year UB ran their tournament, they hosted a free lessons from the pro's session for anyone that wanted to attend. I decided to take it in. Annie did a presentation on calling with small pockets and totally messed up the math and when a couple of us called her on it she basically politarded a response that attempted to cover up her ignorance but instead further exposed it. As a free session it was a waste of time.

Duke has got a brass neck touting her grubby wares right after the recent Epic fail.

I'm sure someone out there will sign up, but PFA members won't be queuing up.

It still amazes me how little regular people know about something as big as Black Friday, so I guess a little ignorance as to Annie Duke and the Epic Poker Fail shouldn't be that surprising. For instance, I have a friend who played online nightly, and even considered quitting his job to play poker, who knows absolutely zero about what is going on at Full Tilt Poker (nor does he really care to know); he literally just assumed the DOJ took the money and Full Tilt didn't do anything wrong. You would think a scandal in any industry where people are out $300 million would be big news on every major network, but forf the most part it's been given little coverage even as it was occuring.

Whether she's good or bad at poker, she's still a master of self promotion. She's learned that it's very profitable. Expect to see, and hear more from her in the future.

Yeah, this camp is a joke, but I bet a lot of suckers will sign up for it.

Makes me regret not getting involved in the whole poker instruction thing, especially when my bracelet win was a lot closer than 7 years ago.

Can we get an Annie Duke Fail forum here?

or will someone start a site dedicated to her shadiness so we can potentially sway people from doing business with her?

That guy doesn't seem possible. (unless out of the US which it doesn't sound like)

Where did he play before BF? and where dose he play now? How old is he?

His credit card worked for FT and Bodog so he never really had issues getting money on or off the sites, so he never kept a bankroll at the site --he'd keep a few tournament buy-ins and cash-out whenever he made a big score. He told me he had a couple hundred on FT and really didn't care about it. He figures if he ever gets it back at this point it's just a bonus. When I first talked to him he believed online poker was banned on Black Friday (which it effectively was), so now he just plays live.

I've tried to brooch the topic with him and a few other people (we play in a semi-regular home tournament together) from time to time, and its almost like your discussing medieval romantic literature with them. A couple of other people I know, who also know very little about the specifics, just play at Bodog now. Almost every person in the tournament group (about 30 of us all together) played online in some capacity because we started a Home Game on PokerStars; of those 30 I bet less than 5 have any idea of what is going on at Full Tilt right now.

    Thanks btw.

I wear my "They Took Our Jobs" shirt at Foxwoods/Moheghan quite a bit, and people/bartenders often ask me, "Hey, who took your job?"

I tell them about Black Friday and the online shenanigans, and they go, "What, what, wha!!!!?!?! Online poker got banned?"

People are so misinformed as a society. Reason why it is going into the shitter.

I can confirm that surprisingly few people know about Black Friday or understand it, even within the poker community.

When I go play live (typically at Commerce or Bellagio), the subject of online poker comes up and, aside from the people who play both online and live, I hear the following questions/comments:

"Oh, wasn't there some kind of problem with Full Tilt recently?"

"I heard the government made online poker illegal last year."

"The government confiscated everyone's money online recently."

"I heard something happened regarding online poker but I'm not exactly sure what occurred."

The average poker player, if they have heard of the Full Tilt mess, believes that their money being gone is the government's fault and not Full Tilt's fault.

And if you asked the typical poker player if Annie Duke has done anything wrong to the poker community, almost all of them would say "No".

Pretty sad, but you have to put most of the blame on most of the poker media for dodging discussion of these topics.

That's why I was shocked to see Cardplayer doing this detailed expose on the Epic Poker League. They must have had some ax to grind directly with either Duke, Pollack, the EPL, or all three.

It's funny that you made this comment because I hear the same things all the time. I see people still wear their full tilt gear with pride. I often get questioned by the regulars in the card room how I am doing on Full Tilt. Now granted I only play Omaha 8/b, so the average age is probably 65. Still most people who do not read the forums, really have no idea of what is going on in the poker world.
