    Vegas with the wife.

Alright, the couple times I have been to Vegas have been on massive gambling (poker) binges.

    So I need some help...

    Best Cirque show currently?
Any other show she might be interested in seeing?

Staying in Flamingo Suite so I am looking for....

    One great center strip restaurant
    Some good but affordable restaurants/buffets

Any other Jewish type hook ups?

Ideally would like to stay under $1500 in recreation (non gambling)/food money for the 5 days we will be there.

Going in February if that matters at all.

Also, anyone have any good Cancun and Washington D.C. tips, going to D.C. this coming summer and Cancun next fall.

    Already dodged a bullet.

Wife said she wanted to see Celine Dion, luckily she is only in Vegas the last week of February.

I have a feeling all my good karma was just wasted on that so really need to get proactive about suggestions to her.

I am not the type to go see shows but after hearing nothing but rave reviews for Absinthe I decided to check it out the last time I was in town. There were seven of us and everybody agreed it was pretty awesome. It has Cirque like acrobatics along with raunchy language and sexual innuendo. There are people handing out $20 off coupons near the tent outside Caesars Palace where the show is held in the early afternoon. We got them day of and payed $75 a ticket after taxes and fees.

MAYBE I AM JUST AN ASSHOLE BUT I FOUND EVERY CIRQUE DU SOLEIL SHOW EXCEPT THE BEATLES TO BE REALLY BORING. I AM NOT A HUGE BEATLES FAN BUT FOUND THE MUSIC TO AT LEAST KEEP ME IN IT. I SAW "O" A FEW WEEKS AGO AND FELL ASLEEP HALFWAY THROUGH. GRANTED, I WAS TIRED FROM NOT SLEEPING THE NIGHT BEFORE BUT I JUST DIDN'T GET THE BIG DEAL.

I TOOK MY GIRLFRIEND TO STRATOSPHERE AND JUMPED OFF. SHE THOUGHT THAT WAS PRETTY FUN

THE RESTAURANT PICASSO AT BELLAGIO I THOUGHT WAS REALLY GOOD. KIND OF COUPLES PLACE.

GO TO THE SPA DEPENDING ON THE HOTEL YOU ARE STAYING AT? BOTH GET MASSAGES ETC.

EVEN JUST WALKING UP AND DOWN THE STRIP CAN BE NICE AS IT GETS YOU OUT OF THE STUFFY CASINOS AND IT IS PERFECT WEATHER RIGHT NOW.

food Earl of Sandwich at south entrance to Planet Hollywood is good for lunch. Avoid pizza joint in venetian food court. Kerry's Gourmet Burgers in Harrah's is often mentioned by local critics, Kerry Simon grinds prime cuts for hamburger. Many dealers say the Ping Pang Pong in the (gasp) Gold Coast is the Chinese place, many Asians in that neighborhood. Can catch a free shuttle to Gold Coast outside of Bill's Gambling Hall. no clue about medium to high end restaurants.

Weather can be cold and almost always is windy. Bring a coat if walking any distance.

Go to Fremont St. one night, completely different vibe from strip and stuff you might not see anywhere else. You might not like everything but at least you have seen it. I've always wanted to pass out a case of Everclear to random stumblebums up there and watch the results.

    I'll come up with more.
    Thanks

There used to be great searchable threads for this stuff at DD/NWP....but now I refuse to visit that cancer.

Also, LOL at it being cold. Come to the upper midwest. It was in the low 30's today. I was rocking shorts, t-shirt and a hoodie.

Also, CMoney already booked SkyJump, been wanting to do that for a couple years.

    Among Cirque shows-
Mystere is great and relatively cheap. Look for online deals.
    Ka is great.
Love is very good, but is obviously helped if you're a Beatles fan. Sit in the front row of the balcony (the theater is round). In a lot of ways they're better than the floor seats and much cheaper.
    O is good but overpriced.
    Zumanity is crap.
And Cleatus mentioned the new one at Aria that's replacing their Elvis debacle.

If you have any restaurant questions, PM me.

My first two tips... I will post more but am in a rush ATM...

Cirque I would def see Mystere. I haven't seen Absinthe but have heard only good things about it.

To get tickets to ANY show, as long as you don't mind getting them the day of you need to go to Tickets For Tonight in the front of the Fashion Show Mall. It's pretty much a 50% discount daily and they have most big strip shows. No time share speach, not shady bullshit, just same day tickets at a big discount. Most people want to book their shows in advance, but to me this is a much smarter way to go about it when you are only 1 couple.

More to come, but I will tell you for sure to hit up Alize in the Palms for your one five star restaurant.

Vegas, I am in the know about the day of show tickets.

I realized today that my wife has never played a table game in her life. For some reason I thought her watching me spend countless hours counting decks of cards magically wore off on her. From some of her comments this evening I was evidently very wrong.

Since I refuse to sit at slots, I have decided I am going to teach her Let It Ride, Caribbean Stud, Pai Gow, any other suggestions?

Kà was also the first Cirque show to that told a story. I really enjoyed it. Those performers are very talented.

If your wife gets bored of those games you can always try the flying camel followed by the angry dragon.

Saw 'Mystere' with the wife. She loved it, I couldn't wait to get out. They are talented as fuck, but it just bores me. Not my thing, I guess.

Here are my Jewish Vegas tips for you:

    - Did you say you were staying at Flamingo? That place is old and dumpy. I hope you're not paying very much for it (you said you had a suite). If you are going to stay at a Caesar's owned property, I would suggest Caesar's as the first choice and Paris as the second.

    - Regarding shows, I have a trick that works to get EXCELLENT SEATS (like nearly the best in the house) to any show, but it also requires being willing to spend some money. It also requires being willing to occasionally fail and not see the show at all. Here is the trick:

Wait until about 60 minutes before showtime. Go to the show's box office IN PERSON (do NOT call or go online). If there is a "cancellation line" (O has this), get in that line. Otherwise, just get in the regular line. When you get to the front, tell them that you know that the casino releases some good seats close to showtime, and you want to buy one of those. Ask what time those seats are released. Do NOT take "no" for an answer -- at least not until you argue back for awhile. Do not accept bullshit like, "There are no casino seats released", "The computer just gets them and spits them out into the general tickets sold", "We don't know when or how this happens", etc. EVERY MAJOR SHOW is like this. Anyway, once you find this out, ask what you need to do to buy the seats. You might have to come back about 15 minutes before showtime. Make sure they show you EXACTLY where you will be sitting. Don't just take their word for it that the seats are good. Do not ever commit to buy anything without seeing the actual seats, unless they promise to give you a refund if the seats suck. At Bellagio (O), you can reject the seats if you don't like them, but you have to get back in the cancellation line if you want to try again. Do that repeatedly until the good seats come up. They usually will. You will still usually have to pay for the top-tier level of seats, which is usually $100-$250 each, but you will be sitting in the very best seats in the house. Occasionally you will fail and have to try again later. I have been successful with this about 90% of the time. Most times they actually show respect for my knowledge of the situation and just give me the best seats right away. Sometimes you need to ask for a supervisor if the ticket agent is clueless.

    - Regarding Cirque shows, Mystere is very good and is also surprisingly cheap compared to the others. O is also good, but it has less acrobatics than Mystere and is more visual. I haven't seen LOVE but have heard mixed things about it. Apparently it lacks acrobatics, and is more of a showcase of Beatles songs. Some like it, some don't. I found Ka to be just okay. It had some really cool parts, but was also mediocre in other parts. I didn't find the "story" around it to be very interesting, so I didn't feel that added much. The VIVA ELVIS show has a terrible reputation and should be avoided. I haven't seen Zumanity, but for the most part, people think it sucks and it gets by on its sexual reputation. Do NOT see the Criss Angel show, no matter how cheap your tickets are. It is known as the worst major Vegas show ever. Absinthe, which is not a Cirque show, seems to be pretty well liked. I saw Jersey Boys last year at Palazzo and liked it. However, you have to be old enough to enjoy '60s and '70s music. I'm not sure if you're into that. If you don't really like that music, you won't like Jersey Boys.

    - I'm not sure where I'll be in February, but if I'm around, I might be able to get you some free tickets to Jersey Boys with excellent seats. PM me when the time comes. You have always been cool, so I'm happy to do it for you if you want.

    - If you take a cab from the airport, tell them NOT to take you on the freeway. That is a common trick to rip off tourists.

    - I would suggest getting a car during your time in Vegas. It's not expensive, and it's a lot easier to get around. Parking is free at all casinos, so it's not like having a car in a place like New York, where you would get hammered for high parking fees.

    - Do NOT valet on Saturday night or Sunday morning. It will take an eternity to get your car.

    - Not sure if you're into this, but find out the various freeroll promotions that exist for signing up for various casino clubs. Sign up both yourself and your wife, even if you have to guide your wife how to play. You can often make some easy money doing this, with very little (or no) risk. It's a bit of a pain in the ass, though.

    - I know you count cards. If your wife is willing to sit with you, that is a big factor in not getting caught. White guys in their early 30s doing it alone are a HUGE red flag to casinos.

    - If you have a car and want something different, take a drive out to Red Rock (the park, not the casino) or Mount Charleston. Some nice scenery in both places, though Mt. Charleston will be a bit cold at this time of year. I love going there in the summer when it's 70 degrees while the rest of Vegas is 110.

    Thanks Druff

I am staying at the Flamingo on a recommendation. They went through and remodeled all of their rooms in the last year. I was basically told the rooms are great now, and it is a cost savings gem compared to across the street, while still maintaining an awesome location.

We will see, they look very nice online, and I trust the source of the recommendation. Obviously I will report back. As a side note, I believe all of their entry level rooms now have hardwood floors which is kind of neat. I am staying in one of the Go Mini Suites and there is a decent to good chance I should be able to see Bellagio fountains from my room, which the wife would obviously think was cool.
