Hector "Macho" Camacho, the famed Puerto Rican boxer, is clinically "brain dead," a doctor said Thursday.
A gunman shot him in the face two days ago while he was seated in a black Ford Mustang in front of a bar in his hometown of Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
Camacho, a former lightweight and junior lightweight champion, was in the passenger seat of the car, sitting next to a man who was shot twice and killed, police said.

He got shot the other day but I haven't seen any mention of it around here. Guy was a good boxer and it seems had a big drug problem after retiring. Only a matter of time until his family pulls the plug.

Me too. He was the first really flamboyant boxer that I can remember. Kind of guy you really loved to hate, but for some reason would root for him as well.

After Marvin Hagler was robbed of his Middleweight Title by two blind clueless judges, I remember enjoying watching Hector Camacho destroy welterweight con man Sugar Ray Leonard.

He was an egomaniac, but a lovable one. He was as talented as boxers get. In his early days as champion, he used to hardly train - he would just make weight and then he would totally dominate guys with his natural ability. Almost no fighter can get away with that. But he was amazing to watch for a long time. His life was a total mess, though, like you said, and this is an unsurprising way for him to go out. Boxing is a terrible, depressing sport. I wish I didn't love it so much.
