Maryland approves full casinos, plans for Caesar's in downtown Baltimore

Probably 4-5 years away, but music to my fucking ears. It barely passed too, half of these fucking idiots in this state voted no, while we are completely surrounded by states with full casinos. Minimum drive was 1.5 hours to nearest one in DE, but now millions will be within 20 minutes of one.

    http://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2012/1...imores-casino/

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Maryland voters have spoken! There will be expanded gambling in Maryland–including a new casino in Baltimore.

Now Caesars Entertainment is talking about its plans. Derek Valcourt explains–a change is in the works.

The backers of Baltimore’s casino originally planned for an all-slots Harrah’s Casino, but not anymore. Now they are changing the name. Soon, a Horseshoe Casino will ride into town.

Horseshoe brand casinos are focused around table games and now that voters have approved Question 7, the operators of Baltimore’s first casino plan to take full advantage.

“This changes the project significantly,” said John Payne, Caesars Entertainment.

The owners of Caesars Casino in Las Vegas will also own Baltimore’s Horseshoe Casino, and promise legendary service along with style and elegance. They showed WJZ interior photos of other Horseshoe Casinos for a glimpse of what’s to come. The casino promises to keep some video slot machines, but now they’ll add as many as 80-110 table games.

“The extra restaurants that we’re going to now add… The increased facility capacity that we’ll have in our multipurpose area… We’re going to build a World Series of Poker room, which started under the Horseshoe name. And all of that together, we believe, is a perfect fit for our location,” Payne said.

While the square footage and the exterior of the building won’t change, they are now scrambling to redesign the layout of their floorspace, and planning to spend roughly an extra $25-million on the project.

And the backers of Baltimore’s casino say because table games were approved, they now need to hire an additional 500 full-time employees. Most of those jobs will be table game dealers and supervisors.

Groundbreaking for the new casino is set for sometime in the first half of 2013, with the planned opening sometime in mid 2014.
What the hell is a World Series of Poker room?? Any other details to fill me in on? How is Caeser's as an ownership group overall?

    So fucking pumped.

Yeah it says it will host "Series Events" so I am guessing that is right.

will the casinos be open 24 hours a day with full liquor sales?

i recall Maryland limits retail sales of alcohol to state run stores that close at 9pm...i don't remember what the last call time is for restaurants and bars

    Last call is at 1:45am.

No idea how they will treat sales past 2am, you would have to think the casino will be open all night?? Or maybe not? That is a good fucking question, didn't think of that.

No clue what you mean by "state run" stores.

Stand alone liquor stores are all 6 days a week (no Sunday sales), bars with a carry out have 7 day licenses and can sell til 2 am any day of the week.

Bars with said license can open up at 6am every day. And in the city, especially in questionable hoods they do.

Several Poker rooms are branded as WSOP Poker rooms, all it means is they host circuit events and use their logo in marketing, signage and on the table felt.

If you live in Baltimore you are a lot closer than an hour and a half to Delaware Park. More like 45-60 minutes away. I used to drive to Silver Spring all the time from Wilmington, and that would only take me an hour or so. Of course if you hit traffic it will take longer, but that drive usually isn't all that backed up.

As far as the liquor sales, they will most likely do exactly what Delaware does, which is stop serving at the cut off time, which in DE is 1am, then start serving again at 5am.

A lot of my degen friends back there hit the MD or PA bars till 2, then drive down to DE Park, gamble it up, eat a little bit, then start drinking again at 5.

Deleware Park is a good hour away, depending on where you live around Bmore could be longer. Plus all the stupid fucking tolls and gas, and dealing with traffic on 95 if you are driving in busy hours. It is a hassle, and tough to beat that rake unless you plan on staying for 12 hours at a clip.

Now it is 20 min, costing a grand total of 3.49 for a gallon of gas. Much more convenient.

Do they require you to drink all liquor at 2 am in the casino, or can you buy something at 1:45 and sit on it until 5am?

Pennsylvania has similar laws about state stores, and while the casino is 24/7, last call for alcohol is at 1:15. Not good for poker, generally good for sanity as it would be treated as an after hours club otherwise and get out of hand with only 1 casino in town.

No idea what Maryland will do , but if I had to guess, it will be like Pennsylvania.

I am speaking of Rivers in Pittsburgh, I don't know about Philly, but I would assume it's similar.

Sales will stop at 2. You can drink it as long as it takes. I doubt they will be selling any 60 ounce drinks that can last you an hour like we do here in Vegas though.

Is there much for tourists to do in Baltimore, aside from visit kinda-nearby Washington DC?

I would like to come see this place when it comes, but not if there's not much to do other than gamble.

The awesome thing about this casino is it will be smack in the middle of downtown, right near the Inner Harbor and every other tourist attraction including BOTH stadiums. There is plenty to do if you are just visiting for a few days. The casino location will be right in the middle of the action, not at some outpost with nothing around it. There will be brand new hotels, bars and restaurants on top of what is already there...and there is a ton of places right now with the two sports teams playing right there. (Camden Yards and M and T Bank stadium are literally 500yds apart).

If all that doesn't entertain you DC is a 30 min drive from downtown.

This will transform the downtown area, it is already jumping all year round and now with a casino it will be busy non stop. Just read they are looking at a mid 2014 launch....sweeet!

You are going to be able to catch a baseball or football game, and then walk essentially across the street into the casino. (literally if it is a football game, maybe a mile or so if it is baseball)

If you look at this map, the area just south of M and T bank Stadium is where it will be , right near the water.

Only problem is a ton of tailgating areas will be infringed upon with this construction, that will suck. But it will be well worth it for people like me. We will drink elsewhere.

I can honestly see myself down there from 9am to tailgate, until late Sunday night in the casino after the game ends. Same with if I go to a baseball game, just gonna head right to the casino afterwards while I am down there. Shit just got real.

Druff, Baltimore is awesome, at least the east side of it is. It's one of the things I miss most about living in DE. Fells Point is fantastic. Definitely try to go when there is an Orioles game, Camden Yards is one of the nicest stadiums out there.

Baltimore is a great city, and there is a lot of stuff to do around the Inner Harbor and Fells Point as a tourist
