Maryland approves full casinos, plans for Caesar's in downtown Baltimore

Probably 4-5 years away, but music to my fucking ears. It barely passed too, half of these fucking idiots in this state voted no, while we are completely surrounded by states with full casinos. Minimum drive was 1.5 hours to nearest one in DE, but now millions will be within 20 minutes of one.

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Maryland voters have spoken! There will be expanded gambling in Maryland–including a new casino in Baltimore.

Now Caesars Entertainment is talking about its plans. Derek Valcourt explains–a change is in the works.

The backers of Baltimore’s casino originally planned for an all-slots Harrah’s Casino, but not anymore. Now they are changing the name. Soon, a Horseshoe Casino will ride into town.

Horseshoe brand casinos are focused around table games and now that voters have approved Question 7, the operators of Baltimore’s first casino plan to take full advantage.

“This changes the project significantly,” said John Payne, Caesars Entertainment.

The owners of Caesars Casino in Las Vegas will also own Baltimore’s Horseshoe Casino, and promise legendary service along with style and elegance. They showed WJZ interior photos of other Horseshoe Casinos for a glimpse of what’s to come. The casino promises to keep some video slot machines, but now they’ll add as many as 80-110 table games.

“The extra restaurants that we’re going to now add… The increased facility capacity that we’ll have in our multipurpose area… We’re going to build a World Series of Poker room, which started under the Horseshoe name. And all of that together, we believe, is a perfect fit for our location,” Payne said.

While the square footage and the exterior of the building won’t change, they are now scrambling to redesign the layout of their floorspace, and planning to spend roughly an extra $25-million on the project.

And the backers of Baltimore’s casino say because table games were approved, they now need to hire an additional 500 full-time employees. Most of those jobs will be table game dealers and supervisors.

Groundbreaking for the new casino is set for sometime in the first half of 2013, with the planned opening sometime in mid 2014.
What the hell is a World Series of Poker room?? Any other details to fill me in on? How is Caeser's as an ownership group overall?

    So fucking pumped.

Yeah it says it will host "Series Events" so I am guessing that is right.

will the casinos be open 24 hours a day with full liquor sales?

i recall Maryland limits retail sales of alcohol to state run stores that close at 9pm...i don't remember what the last call time is for restaurants and bars

    Last call is at 1:45am.

No idea how they will treat sales past 2am, you would have to think the casino will be open all night?? Or maybe not? That is a good fucking question, didn't think of that.

No clue what you mean by "state run" stores.

Stand alone liquor stores are all 6 days a week (no Sunday sales), bars with a carry out have 7 day licenses and can sell til 2 am any day of the week.

Bars with said license can open up at 6am every day. And in the city, especially in questionable hoods they do.

Several Poker rooms are branded as WSOP Poker rooms, all it means is they host circuit events and use their logo in marketing, signage and on the table felt.

Pennsylvania has similar laws about state stores, and while the casino is 24/7, last call for alcohol is at 1:15. Not good for poker, generally good for sanity as it would be treated as an after hours club otherwise and get out of hand with only 1 casino in town.

No idea what Maryland will do , but if I had to guess, it will be like Pennsylvania.

I am speaking of Rivers in Pittsburgh, I don't know about Philly, but I would assume it's similar.
