How does the dream lend itself for drug abuse?

You think the dream is literal, that is your first mistake. The other is that people are creatures of motive and if your motive is to have control of your life and you don't and you can't find anyone to bully, you are more likely to find escape in narcotics. One thing leads to the other, not one thing IS the other.

maybe one escapes into a drug induced trance because the user thinks he/she can't control their own life. it's a vicous cycle apparently. although, it usually takes a durastic impact on an user's life to change that though process.
