    What Would Druff Do? Customer Service Question...

    As some of you might have read I plan on taking my GF for a quick getaway to SoCal next week...

    After looking at pretty much every house and condo from San Diego to LA I ended up getting a really cool house overlooking Laguna Beach...















    It took a lot of research to find this place, most places were little cottages or that "beach house" type of place, which wasn't what I wanted and for the money this place is a one of a kind deal. Most places like this would cost no less than $1k per night, I got this place for $1450 for 4 days and 3 nights. I was really excited about this and so was she. We had it booked for this coming Tuesday.

    So, yesterday I get an email from the rental company saying to please contact them. I call and some woman tells me that they have to cancel my reservation because the washing machine malfunctioned and flooded out the entire downstairs and the hardwood floors needed to be replaced. They told me this happened on Wednesday and were hoping to have it finished before I got there, but that the contractors told them it was going to take at least a couple of weeks to get the job done. Fucking weak!!!! She tells me they will immediately refund my money and that they were very sorry. Also, usually they would offer me something else, but the other two properties they have in Laguna are already booked.

    Obviously I am extremely disappointed, not just because of them cancelling, but also because it was a huge pain in the ass finding something I liked, and now I literally have 2 business days to find something else. I let them know this and they just say "yes, we understand, we are very sorry." No offer to make things right in the future, just a sorry.

    It takes me up until a few hours ago to find something else suitable, but still not near as cool as this place. It was literally a one of a kind deal. At any rate they sent me a receipt via email for my refund, but still the $1450 hasn't shown back up in my bank acct.. I called them again today to let them know and they tell me it will take 5-7 business days to show back up. I'm not too worried about getting scammed, the company is legit and has a good rating with the BBB, but fuck man, what a shitty deal. What if I needed that money for the vacation and these assholes have it tied up for a week? Luckily I don't, but they don't fucking know that. So, couple this with the inconvenience this has caused me having to scramble to find something else with 3 days notice, and I think I deserve a lot more than just a "sorry".

    I just looked at the forecast for Laguna and it's supposed to be really nice during that time. Fuck me if that's wrong. I already booked another joint. Really cool Italian design a block from the beach, but not near as pimpin' as this place.

    That totally sucks.

    But I assume the fine print on whatever agreement you had allows them to do this. You might ask for a picture of the floor being replaced, so you know they're not bullshitting you.

    If you go full on Druff at them and demand a bunch of shit, I'm sure they will just point to the fine print and tell you to fuck off.

    Well since this isn't a huge outfit who has lots of other properties, I don't see how you can use the dissatisfied customer angle for leverage to get something out of them.

    Nothing really you can do, they are giving your money back and I am sure the fine print covers them in situations like this.

    Oh, and don't think for one fucking second I believe a word of their story. I am more inclined to believe that if it was the deal you say, someone fucked up with the price and they made this shit up to cover for it.

    Was thinking the same thing, vegas have you checked other dates to see what it goes for say a week later etc?

    It is common for these places to book at a cheaper price, then list the same place for a higher amount and if someone reserves it, they makeup some BS excuse and cancel on the first person. Long, long running shady practice. Sad thing is I'm pretty sure that there is nothing you can do about either, except maybe neg rep them at sites where they are listed.

    Are you still going during the same time? If so, maybe you could "pop by" and see if someone else is there.

    I doubt it... It was the owners of the house that I dealt with who just happen to own a company that leases out other houses as well. Also, the house is listed on a bunch of different web sites at that price. If you average it out for what they want per month or week, that is the price it comes to. Most places this size are around that cost, the problem is I literally couldn't find anything this size with that "modern" style, and nothing with that view. Anything similar was usually at least 5 bedrooms and just out of my range. This place is the only 3 BR house I could find with those features.

    I actually do believe them about the floors. I spoke with both owners and also a separate girl that works for the company as well. All said the same thing about how the floors were flooded.

    Damn! Definitely possible, that's fucked up. Yes, I am staying very close by. I will be making a trip there now for sure.

    KIND OF A SEGUE OFF ORIGINAL TOPIC BUT EVERY TIME I LOSE AT THE WYNN CASINO I URINATE ON THE FLOOR IN THE ROOM. LAST TIME SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH MY TV SO I CALLED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO SENT SOME GUY UP TO FIX IT. HE WAS ON HIS HANDS AND KNEES LOOKING BEHIND WHERE THE TV WAS TRYING TO FIX THE PROBLEM.

    I COMPLETELY FORGOT THAT I PISSED THE NIGHT BEFORE IN THE EXACT LOCATION WHERE HE WAS ON HIS HANDS AND KNEES. WITH A CONCERNED LOOK, HE WAS LIKE "I THINK THERE IS A WATER LEAK IN YOUR ROOM."

    THAT WAS PRETTY HOF

    I DID FEEL BAD AFTER THOUGH.

    Damn! Definitely possible, that's fucked up. Yes, I am staying very close by. I will be making a trip there now for sure.
    If I were you I would "pop in" and see if there is any real damage, if any workers are there etc. Might even catch a smoking gun with someone else there renting.

    If someone (worker or otherwise) is there tell them the owner sent you over and you work at his office or something, but try to get a peak inside. If you can find evidence they were lying, then you might be able to do something about it.

    I mean it was the entire 1st floor right? Won't be hard to miss if that was the case. If a flood really happened those floors will be warped to shit almost right afterwards, or when the wood dries out (few days max). You won't be able to miss it, they will start curling up fast.

    Obviously they should have offered another spot for you to go, this rental company honestly has NO other houses in socal they can put you up in? That's what I find strange and also irritating, and to be honest, I would let them know that if they do nothing to make things right with you, they leave you no choice but to contact the BBB about your shitty treatment as you feel it neccessary others be informed prior to planning important vacations/trips etc.

    Also the refund not showing up right away might be out of the persons hands you spoke with, but not the company's in general. Case in point- I was owed a refund by the county of $150, for a double payment I made in error, and after being informed it would take several weeks to receive this refund (the check supposedly coming from Sacramento) I bitched and worked up the ladder until i tracked down the actual person who mails checks for the DOR. Well, he handles large batches of them, long story short this guy tells me checks are printed where he is at (the DOR is in San Jose off Berger dr) and then sent to Sac, so I ask would he please print for me asap as I need this for rent, and he calls me back 30 minutes later telling me the check had already been printed and was ready for me to pick up, saving probably two weeks of waiting.

    Moral of the story- you can get your fucking refund NOW, just find the right person and never accept NO for an answer.

    This is absolutely a waste of time. It's not what you know, it's what you can PROVE, everything else is conjecture.

    If what people KNEW was relevant, every conspiracy theorist would be jumping for joy as they have all the knowledge in the world to support aliens kidnapping 9/11 and using george bush as a front for laundering mexicans, but they never have actual PROOF of anything.

    Anything Vegas says will be discredited, and the effort to possibly get statements from experts on say pictures of water damage can easily be ignored by the company.

    Honestly, threatening to complain to the BBB for cancelling without offering a comp to help keep his schedule is the best bet IMO.
