1) High chance that the sex will be better and more frequent, even after the first few months where it would otherwise normally start to decline
2) Girls like this tend to be less shallow when it comes to looks/money/age/etc, so "out of your league" often doesn't apply
3) They are more likely to be fun and spontaneous
4) More availability -- these girls tend to not stay in relationships very long, so you get a fairly quick chance to shoot your shot
These are the factors which appeal to many men, and also the "I like saving people" dudes also get an ego boost out of the whole thing.
These relationships are often high upside/high downside situations, where it can be hard to give up, even if you see the clearly high downsides.

So those chicks are fun initially, they aren’t judgmental when after six years of being cooped up sick you just want to go on a 72 hour bender and play poker and whatever. They aren’t conventional and wouldn’t be interested in you if you were. Like I wanted to party on Friday night and fire off on six football games on Saturday, not go to hobby lobby and pick out shit for the house. I wanted to go to golf outings and drink with my buddies on the weekend, not look at new furniture for the deck. Like my wife just wanted that husband who wanted to do that shit all the time
So they start out as fun and they aren’t on you to do the boring and mundane tasks of a normal marriage, but then there is just something off and a reason why very hot chicks who are fun and likable are even available, and you eventually find out why. My friend and I have conversations that are like speed chess. The pace is intense and we constantly interrupt each other with a new topic but seamlessly return 10 minutes later to the subject that was suspended. It’s conversational jazz. We’ve gone for 6 hours riffing back and forth. One of my all time favorite chats. She’s brilliant but she’s clearly dealing with some form of manic/depressive disorder. I limit my exposure to long conversations then long periods of absence.
They have a daughter who by my estimation has never had a real life friend. She is on the spectrum according to the mother but I never pry about the details. The daughter is 2nd in her class at a private school. She’s toured Brown ($90k and no scholarships according to mom) and MIT (no tuition). Kid eats and breathes bio-chemistry. Not trains apparently.
I am no mechanical genius but I have some game from doing rental maintenance. I find myself offering to fix this and that at their house. It’s one odd “family” situation with the three of them.
