Donald Trump has named former Democratic congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard as his nominee for director of national intelligence. Gabbard is another loyalist who frequently joined Trump at campaign events.
Here’s what he had to say in announcing in picking Gabbard, who represented Hawaii from 2013 to 2021, and endorsed Trump after leaving the Democratic party:

Too many people on both sides are eager these days to fall in love with a turncoat. It's some form of weird validation to them that someone on the "other side" now agrees with them (or in this case, agrees with them AND joins them).
That's why the Lincoln Project grift worked so well. It was played as ethical Republicans coming together to oppose Trump. In reality, it was a group of failed 2000s GOP operatives, most of whom were in need of money, and they figured out this was a perfect grift aimed at gullible Democrats. And boy did it work!
But Republicans are equally stupid with this shit. They love the former lib who comes over to their camp. They love to be able to say, "See! Tulsi was a Democratic Presidential candidate in 2020, and now even she says she doesn't recognize her old party anymore!"
In reality, these people are just opportunists with no real principles or ideology. They just blow in whichever way will take them the furthest.
Unfortunately, Trump owed her something. She and RFK Jr were able to help him cultivate the "Team Unity" idea, and it was effective. It made Trump seem ideologically diverse, whereas Kamala was stuck in her left wing bubble. This sort of "unity" comes at a cost, and that's a bargain Trump struck at the time they vocally came out for him.
Whether she's competent at her position remains to be seen. Same with RFK Jr. Except he was more of a weird guy from a famous family who was looking for a major candidate to latch onto, and Kamala rejected his first overture.
