    Happy 10th Anniversary!!

Tomorrow marks a not so important moment in PFA history. The birth to the second longest thread (and I predict will be longest in a year or so after the election <Trump thread>)was made to bring all Sports Wagering threads under one roof.

    Happy 10th Anniversary FFAWT

There have been some incredible runs and big at odds wins. Without fagging up the original thread which has a strict agreement to be content only (helping its success) I think it would be cool to share any moments here.

Favorite stretch has to be the prop runs we had near the start of the thread where we would hit 75% over multiple bets back in 2014-2018.

This also coincided with @Chinamaniacs “The Zone Blitz” radio show - def fun times.

My fav bet has to be the 150-1 call on Kurt Kitayama to win the Arnold Palmer 2-3 years ago by yours truly.

Bet with most anguish has to be CJ Stroud to with the Heisman at 40-1. Few of us had tickets on that one and I told everyone who would listen that this little known High School Sr from Cali was going to win the job that summer and lead them to glory. He was 8-1 at season kickoff and was -300 live at draftkings when Bryce Young led Bama on his Heisman moment drive and cost me near 6 figures.

Its been a hell of a run…… so far

I don't bet very much but I always read the thread. Two years ago I won about $2,000 in a friends NFL pool and the thread helped me on many picks. Druff was on a hot streak with some big underdogs and I tailed him and won several weeks out of the season and the end of season 1st place.

I also made a special trip to Foxwood to put a bet down on Kurt K who had an incredible run with huge odds.

The thread is really great Daly. Its entertaining even if you're not an active bettor. I hope to be reading it 10 years from now.

Unless you are dead from pancreatic cancer, then you will not. Don't be so confident. 10 years is a long time.

Yes, that great thread is 10 years old, and thanks to Daly for all of his contributions here.

However, the anniversary is actually October 30. The thread was created 10/30/14.

So why does it show November 5, 2013? Well, that's because of bots.

For whatever reason, bots from all over the place were hammering the thread. I'm not sure why, but they were bogging down the system badly from reading it constantly, almost like a DDoS attack (though that's not what was going on). The easiest way to stop this was to make them fail to refresh the thread. I did that by moving all of the posts to a different thread which had been created on 11/5/2013. It was a junk thread with little engagement, and I changed the author to Daly, moved his original post's text there. Then I kept his original 10/30/14 post and added him saying "C'mon boys let's get this going" so it didn't look weird that it had no engagement for a year. Sorry, Daly.

Anyway, the bots got a bad thread error when they tried to refresh the old one, and it worked. They went away.

I dont post that often there, last couple years just too busy to seriously devote time to overthink bets. Still usually the first thread i look at. Tailed many fun ones, mainly golf.

    Keep it going!

Druff just changing history like some woke professor. What’s next I ask you? George Washington Jewish?

I figured it was something like that, nothing to apologize over.

You have had a lot of positive contribution over the years.

Honestly that bot thing was a huge pain in the ass. At first I felt helpess, since PFA is open for the world to browse without an account, which is of course the way I want it. However, that allows attacks like this to occur, even if they're not intended to be actual DDoS attacks. For whatever reason, many thousands of bots were interested in that wagering thread, and were constantly refreshing it. There were so many IPs that it was impossible to block them all (and they'd constantly change). Also, I couldn't try to do any kind of intelligent blocking by browsing pattern without collateral damage against regular lurkers here.

After some thought, I realized the best solution was simply to make the thread appear to be dead by moving its entire content to a different thread. This required completely divorcing it from the prior thread (or vBulletin would forward the bots to the new one), so that's why I had to take an old thread and make that the initial post of the new thread.

Props to Daly for remembering 10 years back, and that something looked funny about the start date of the thread (and the apparent 11 months of no activity on it).

Fortunately the bots weren't programmed to go looking for the thread in its new location, so they went away. Still not sure what they were after.
