I'm going to admit something right now.

I am a little uncomfortable with The Donald's chances, whereas I was almost 100% sure he would beat Biden.

The Democrats and media are now engaging in an organized, planned mass delusion that Kamala is the perfect candidate, and an inspiring competent woman who will fight for freedom and democracy.

It's utter nonsense, and it ignores nearly 5 years of incompetence, awkwardness, off-putting nervous laughter, and lack of respect from within her own party. But that's the narrative being sold right now, and I see it's actually being eaten up.

Part of the problem was that Trump got too complacent after the shooting seemed to solidify his reelection. He chose JD Vance as VP with an eye toward continuing the MAGA movement in 2029 and beyond, rather than present electability. Huge mistake. Vance is one of those guys who can have limited appeal if you don't look at him too closely, but falls apart upon massive and close scrutiny. He's a big turnoff for a lot of independent and moderate voters, especially moderate suburban white women -- a demographic Trump already struggles to get to vote for him.

Vance has been a net negative, and that plus the new reframing of Kamala might be enough to drag her over the finish line.

The other problem here is that Kamala has less time, and in this case it's a good thing for her. Had Kamala been the candidate all along, there would have been a long period of time where the public could become reacquainted with her awfulness. Now there' just 3 1/2 months, and if she's carefully managed and scripted well enough, they might be able to sell the false rebranding and hide that she's a complete phony.

Finally, Kamala being 59 is suddenly a huge asset to her. A lot of independent voters weren't fans of Trump, but they saw a feeble and senile old man as his opponent, and figured that at least Trump is lucid. They quietly settled upon voting for Trump, despite not being happy about it. Now suddenly the Democratic candidate isn't old, and Trump's age has become an issue, even though he's still mostly sharp. Independent voters are saying, "Well okay, now that we don't have to vote for a senile old coot in order to oppose Trump, we'll vote for the woman with the weird laugh."

With all of that said, we might just be witnessing a honeymoon phase. Kamala isn't an unknown figure. People just have to be reminded again of how terrible she is/was, and that may not take very long.
