The Bachelorette made some franchise history on Monday.

The long-running hit ABC reality dating series announced its first Asian American lead. After 20 seasons, The Bachelorette‘s Jenn Tran will make franchise history in that role.

Tran, who was eliminated before hometown week on Joey Graziadei’s now-concluded 28th season of The Bachelor, was announced as the season 21 Bachelorette lead during Graziadei’s three-hour After the Final Rose live finale on Monday night. Former Bachelorette Charity Lawson broke the news on-air, telling host Jesse Palmer that Tran would be taking over as the next lead.

Never been that into Asian women myself. Like I'm not against dating them, but I just don't have near the level of enthusiasm as many other guys. There was a pretty Asian chick I briefly dated in college, and I actually ended it because I felt guilty for not appreciating her like so many other dudes she knew. I knew a number of guys who were really really into her, and I was just kinda into her. Just seemed like a waste for her to be dating me, so I ended it. I didn't tell her that was the reason, but that was the truth.

When I worked in software, a high % of fellow white programmers had Asian girlfriends or wives. I was the outlier. Most white computer nerds tend to prefer Asian girls.
