Honestly, I did not take it personally after cooling off. I mean these Docs get stiffed all the time on insurance claims so I probably caught him on a bad day. As far as fatty liver disease, I am well beyond that. I probably caught what I needed to in time though. I really have no symptoms other than I wake up with liver pain a couple times a month but its more infrequent. But given my tests I think I caught it in time. The liver regenerates so I am not worried, although I am fully aware if I got on another run I could be bright yellow in a few months. The liver is forgiving, until its not. Actually most alcohol abusers die of heart disease, amazing I dodged that, my BP and cholesterol results are amazingly in line.
Low cholesterol is common in liver disease as is hypotension. Good job at trying to rationalize your condition. Pooh on you.

One of the most unfortunate side effects of getting off alcohol is sleep issues. Many nights I sleep great, but some nights such as tonight I wake up at 2am and forget it, not getting back to sleep. My mind just races and self induced anxiety sets in. My life actually is going really well, good family, plenty of money, house paid for, etc.. But at 2am sitting in a dark quiet office causes periods of guilt, anxiety and some night outright paranoia. I can easily say in the last 25 years I squandered over $1M on shit I never would have done if I were not drinking. For instance:
1) I lost probably $25,000 on two oil wells. I knew it was a bad idea to wildcat oil wells in Oklahoma, but I was with buddies and we were drinking on a Thursday night and we each took out our check books. I knew the next day it was a bad idea when I sobered up and called the guy I gave the check to and he convinced me it was going to work out, that he hit on several wells that made him nearly a million bucks. It was legit, I went to the site and they were starting to drill it just came up dry. But its something I never would have done with a clear mind
2) I bought a $400,000 condo in Florida as an investment property. I signed the contract, about 5 drinks in. This was late 2006, then the market went belly up in 2007. I was two weeks away from closing and found out the condo was now worth $250,000. It was close to construction completion and I told the builder I wanted my deposit back. Yeah right, $20,000 right down the drain. Here again never would have done that without alcohol involved. Turned out walking away was the best decision, turns out the building was saddled with mold issues after the fact and most eventually short sold at $100,000 or so
3) Poker, poker, poker. Never forget it, channel surfing around midnight, drunk. And then I saw the Moneymaker tournament, then that led to the Party Poker ads and led to me making my first deposit. That led to casinos, and especially an underground game at my golf country club which absolutely devastated me financially at the time. I was making $20,000 a month and it was all going to poker. What a waste. But it all started that fateful night watching tv drinking. Candidly, without alcohol involved I would have been asleep.
All these instances enter your mind in the middle of the night. Now, when the sun comes up, your mind clears and you go about your day. I guess every normal male makes ridiculous financial decisions time to time, but it still wears you out mentally at 3am when you know your mistakes are alcohol induced. It's creates guilt, now I have a friend that rarely drinks, maybe two beers a week. He is perpetually miserable in his marriage and has 4 kids two of which are in and out of jail for drugs, so there are no absolutes in life. One of his kids has an arrow tatted on his neck so maybe I am better off than I think.

One of the worst aspects of quitting drinking for me was the sleep issue. I took 1-2 Benadryl tablets a night until I pushed through the worst of it. Magnesium is also a solid supplement for sleep. 5 HTP is another that helped with my moods and sleep. These days if I wake up in the middle of the night, I rarely have an issue falling right back to sleep.
