The "horseshoe theory" is a political theory which states that the far left and far right actually share a lot in common. It derives its name from a horseshoe shamed diagram, showing that, while the normal left and normal right are far apart, they both "curve inwards" in the same direction at the extremes, thus being similar in some ways.




While sociologists and others studying this theory have mostly discredited it, I have seen evidence in more recent years that it might be somewhat true.

Here are some examples:


Far-left: Defund the police, as they are corrupt and oppress the people.

Far-right: Defund and dismantle the FBI and DOJ, as they are corrupt and oppress the people.



Far-left: People of color should have safe spaces away from their white oppressors.

Far-right: People of different races should not intermingle.



Far-left: It's extremely important to notice and obsessively think about your own race and the races of those around you.

Far-left: If you are a biological man with effeminate mannerisms and feminine interests, you should accept that you're a woman and transition.

Far-right: Real men should not have effeminate mannerisms or feminine interests.



Far-left: Lesbians need to accept that women can have penises, and it is transphobic for them to refuse to date such women.

Far-right: Being gay is a choice, and they can be converted back to heterosexuality if they try hard enough.



Far-left: Women have no right to complain about biological men being allowed in their locker rooms, bathrooms, prisons, and sporting events.

Far-right: Women have no right to complain about laws forbidding abortion.



Far-left: The Jews are evil oppressors and have outsized influence on US culture and government.

Far-right: The Jews are evil and greedy, and have outsized influence on US culture and government.



Far-left: Violence is an acceptable and necessary means to get our message across.

There's no doubt that extremists are often crazy, no matter which side they're on.

But it really is interesting how much the far-left and far-right now have in common. As a Jew, I watched the far left to evolve into real anti-Semitism -- something most Democrats denied until the October 7th attacks, and suddenly they were shocked to see how many in their party really did hate Jews (and not just Israel).

Some of this has been a recent evolution. The anti-FBI/DOJ stuff from the right is recent. The increased left-wing support of racially segregated spaces is recent. The left's belief that being a man or woman is connected to a narrow, stereotypical view of masculinity/femininity is recent.

Wouldn't it be nice if each side denounced the extreme side of their base and told them to eat shit? Think of how much more normal everything would be.

I worry about left wing anti-Semitism much more than the right wing version.

At the moment, the far-right anti-Semites are too small in number to do much damage, and they have been around forever. For the last several decades, they've been a nuisance, but have wielded little political influence, nor have they engaged in mass violence/vandalism against Jews.

The left wing anti-Semitism has really gained steam since the 10/7 attacks, and a lot of those people are newly emboldened. There's also a lot more of them, and the mainstream media tolerates them because they get to hide behind "we just don't like Israel, we are just fighting genocide" bullshit. The right wing anti-Semites just outright admit they hate Jews, so they never get much popular traction, and are generally regarded as nutcases (which they are).

I don't appear obviously Jewish in looks, nor does my name sound Jewish. Thus it's unlikely I will be subject to any anti-Semitic attacks by strangers, unless I'm at a Jewish event, which I do attend occasionally.

But I am moderately concerned that anti-Semitism will be more of a growing problem, especially as it gets hidden in phony concern for Gaza.

The far left, under the guise of social justice or climate change really have access to unlimited funds. I have plenty of money to give to political causes but I choose not to because I would rather spend it on myself. But I know plenty of leftists who routinely give money to local candidates who support progressive causes, especially dealing with climate, social and transgender issues. I am not talking about wealthy people either, just average people who are so afflicted with TDS they would rather give it to a cause such as promoting reparations given they have white guilt which is based on systemic coding of the human brain by left wing outlets.
