The whole debacle with McCarthy was stupid and a bad idea. He should not have been removed.
Yes, this was mostly an exercise in incompetence.
However, the highly biased article doesn't give enough discussion to the fact that Biden's greatest weakness right now is the border, and if the border gets "fixed" by November, Trump's chances of winning go down.
So House Republicans are in a funny position here. If they pass a bill to fix the border, and Biden goes along with it, he gets the credit. If they reach too far and cause the bill to fail, then they can blame Democrats, and the border crisis will remain until election time.
It's shitty, but you have to remember that politics is dirty, and that most Americans tend to pay little attention to the intricacies of stories. So honestly, it's better for Trump that the border remain a mess (even if Republicans could have had a hand in fixing it) than for them to orchestrate a way to fix it, and Biden gets most of the credit.
