So Cal Getting Pounded By Massive Winter Swells

Actually not just in San Diego and L.A. beaches, but all up and down the entire west coast (and Hawaii)

Today was your average Thursday in north county other than unusually pristine weather, but damnnn the swells are coming in so hard breaking 300 yards offshore…big walls of whitewater

coastal PCH 101 parking spots few and far between

Video below is from Mavericks just uploaded yesterday which is closer to San Luis Obispo a few hours north of me

When I woke up this morning I almost bugged out to see how huge Mavericks is, but staying here for the weekend because there are some epic spots in La Jolla about 30 minutes south that should be hitting at 15-20 feet over the weekend

Yes California is an overpriced dystopian liberal shithole, but it’s my California born and raised and I still love it here for better or worse

I’m 5’9 relatively short my lower body coordination sucks I have never attempted surfing

however I have extraordinary upper body coordination

I have been out in 10-12 foot surf body/boogie boarding countless times and been bruised and pounded

dropped in on a huge swell living in Ensenada at Estero beach and heard my rib crack landing

I am too old now but in my late 20’s and early 30’s I was fearless in big surf

It will die down today (Friday) but rise up again Saturday morning, albeit not quite as high.

Best spots in LA area on Saturday will be Redondo Beach and Ventura.

    carlsbad/encinitas spots are insane

best breaks are in La Jolla and OB

    massive walls

most of the pros aren’t out because it’s too big and the swells are washouts meaning they are unsurfable

I love being able to ride some waves when I step off my deck.

Between the Malibu wildfires, landslide and quake possibilities, and potential flooding from the Pacific no company will insure my humble abode. Terribly unfair.

Tyde, Mavericks is close to Half Moon Bay, damn near to San Francisco.
The reason all workers deserve a living wage is because all workers need to be alive. Not very complex.

I’ve scuba dived the Kelp Forest many times. We used to go out with 10 guys for a weekend in my brother’s father-in-law’s boat out of Oxnard. We’d spear fish and hunt for scallops, lobsters and abalone. Cook on the boat, have a skeet shooting tourney on the stern, and sleep off the Channel Islands. Saturday night we’d often go into Catalina and get shitfaced. It’s was a blast. The water is a little cold though!

There were people surfing and bodyboarding at El Porto in Manhattan Beach today. It was as big as I've ever seen there. Double overhead easily. One guy got a jet ski ride in. I wanted to go up to Rincon and check it out but was worried the 101 might get washed out.

Today is your second chance to do it. I am probably going to do it.

Forgot about the rain, so that kinda sucks. But I think that's going to die down shortly.

Surfers Point Beach in Ventura should be better than Rincon. I presume that's closer to you, and it's less isolated than Rincon. As you said, there's the potential issue of 101 getting washed out, and even worse, having nowhere to run if a wave shows up which is dangerously large.
