Trivia question to share with those waiting with you for Popeyes chicken. How many strikeouts did Dodgers pitchers collect in the full game Friday?

Zero strikeouts for Dodgers staff. zero.zero to be precise.
I didn't even notice that. There was a game against the Padres which was like that... though I'm forgetting if they got a few in the closing innings.

Dodgers really need to close this out tomorrow. I can't root for your bet, San. Sorry.

I'm still scanning Stubhub to see if I can find tickets I can justify buying. Prices still falling. I'm very tempted to buy some I see right now for $350ish each, but the Jew in me wants to let them keep falling.

I really really really considered those seats. Came seconds away from buying, then got cold feet.

Finally after about an hour, they vanished for $355 each.

Seats a little bit too far to the left in order to justify paying $355, even for NLCS. Was very marginal spot. Also there's a general trend of falling prices.

However, there are only a handful of seats left that I'd want, period. So supply starting to get low, at least for what I would buy.

Oh well. If I miss it, I miss it.

Well, I'm going. Mulled it over all night, kept refreshing ticketing apps, finally found some for $325/each in a great spot and bought.

Please don't shit the bed, Dodgers. It's probably the only postseason game I'll attend this year.

That’s tremendous that you guys are going.

Kopech is opening. They gonna run former starter Kopech multiple innings? I bailed the F5 shenanigans.

Mets kept it just close enough to make it interesting but never highly stressful.

Dodgers did get out of two bases loaded jams. Looked like it would be a laugher when Dodgers were up 6-1, but soon enough Vientos hit a 2-run shot to make it 6-3, and Mets had bases loaded.

Mets left a shitload of runners on base.

First time I've ever seen a Dodgers NLCS game where they won the league. In fact, this is the first NLCS game I've seen when the Dodgers had won 3 games in the series already.

Dodgers continue to have a very good postseason record with me at the games. At one point they had won 10 in a row.

For once, Dave Roberts actually did a good job with strategy. He hasn't really had any big fails so far this postseason. There's still time, though.

Edman was such a huge pickup. The kid is just so clutch. The Dodgers only parted with Miguel Vargas (who had failed to establish himself in the Majors) and two mediocre prospects. In return they got Edman, Michael Kopech (who has also proven very useful), and a minor leaguer. Even Sanlmar will have to admit that Friedman did a good job on that one.

Edman's stock was down because he had a .706 OPS year in 2023, and had been injured for approximately a full year when he got shipped to LA. So there was no guarantee he would be viable. But he's been great.

Dodgers scored 46 runs this series in just 6 games, and they scored 8, 9, 10, 10 runs in their four wins. And that's with Freddie Freeman ailing and missing time.

This Mets team wasn't great. They were a weak opponent by NLCS standards. Padres were tougher, and Dodgers squeaked by them. The biggest test is coming up. Judge, Soto, and even Giancarlo Stanton aren't going to be easy to deal with for this patchwork of pitchers. Good thing the bullpen will have time to rest. No baseball til Friday.

Will this be the highest rated postseason in a long time? Gone are the days when the World Series was must-watch TV, airing on one of the big 3 networks amidst little other choice on the tube. But we might at least see a modern ratings record, and perhaps and overall viewership record when you factor in Japan, which has been getting huge ratings.

MLB and the TV executives couldn't have scripted it better. Dodgers versus Yankees, in a series which features Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto, and Mookie Betts. The Judge/Ohtani thing alone is going to bring a lot of eyeballs.

That Soto and Judge combo is already so daunting, but when Stanton starts hitting like this, it just becomes this absurd juggernaut to get through. They are all so disciplined at the plate also, so that makes me even more irritated. Two out of 3 are going to hit a homer every game. I expected to lose, but still hate losing to the rich teams every time. But losing to a team you should beat is even worse. The Thomas homer and Big Christmas moments were spectacular. It was a fun season.

Stanton hitting two game-defining homeruns with two outs and first base open is going to sit poorly with me for a long time. This manager had a great first year, but had me scratching my head often. Up against it with the less talented roster, so I will give him a pass.

Congrats Druff. Your Dodgers made easy work of the Mets. As a fan, boring games, but nice for a team that hasn't always performed in the playoffs to not have to stress you out. This late year pitching surge is surprising. I thought you'd need to win 9-7 more often in the post season. You have a more potent offense than Yankees top to bottom, but those 3 cats on NY, you just can't miss with them. Should be a great series.

Stole that from the Yankees radio broadcaster John Sterling. He returned from retirement and will also do the World Series. Thank god. Sync the radio show to the stream and “voila”

Small sampling of other Sterling Home Run calls. I’ll hear them often next week.

Juan Soto: There’s a Soto photo! (singing) He’s Juan-der-ful, marvelous!

Aaron Judge: It’s a Judge-ian blast! All rise, here comes the Judge!

Giancarlo Stanton: It is a Stantonian home run!

Gleybor Torres: And like a good Gleyber, Torres is there!

Cabrera, Oswaldo : Oswaldo! The wizard of Oz!

I love his sidekick Suzyn Waldman too. She has a musical theater background and similar to Vin Scully and his jazz she has an ear and a sense of timing that I think credits her on air work. Great team. Together 20 years.

So you have 86 year old Sterling and 76 year old Suzyn Waldman. Great is great no matter the age. Scully was 89 when he retired. The World Series is an exercise in nostalgia and tradition unlike the Championships for other sports.

I could not possibly listen to Ben Shapiro’s brother Joe “Motormouth” Davis. Davis doesn’t seem to understand we can SEE the game just as he does. Vin Scully used silence brilliantly.

Baseball has the greatest opportunity with New York and Los Angeles and it is being squandered with Joe Davis. Maybe the world is more woke than I care to admit. We will see

This will be the first World Series I will watch in years. The star power, story lines and just the best players in the world all condensed. If this were the Mets versus Indians I would not watch an inning. This one however has it all.

    Delicious Yankees/Dodgers pitch usage video.

Author is a rarity in that he acknowledges “what you see - the opponent sees too and will seek to adjust”. Can my athlete execute that adjustment? The endless cat and mouse of a tournament matchup

I know I’ll be on a bunch of props for Yankees v Buehler if they start him. He has straightened it out a bit, but still dancing between raindrops and was still there to get. The Yankees hitters are just so disciplined.

Kahnle has been unhittable with that change up.

Tribe hit a lot of hard ones off Gerrit Cole. He still beat them, but his ball looks a little flat still. Dodgers might get to him. I’m sure Flaherty has faced Yankees a decent amount. I’ll have to look at his history against them.

If Yankees got to the Tribe’s elite bullpen I think NYY will catch up to the inevitable huge exposure to the Dodgers bullpen

The trick or treat performances from Flaherty, Yammy and Buehler is so difficult to handicap.

Is/was Flaherty sick (as Dave Roberts claimed and Flaherty denied) or is Flaherty’s back fucked up again. Yankees passed on him and his cortisone program.

I have frittered away so many units on futures that were essentially Dodger fades in disguise. Padres tickets still evoke tears weeks later. However, I console myself knowing I have made so much money off playoff Dodgers the past decade.

Right brain wants to bet the series preflop and be a hero. Left brain says we will know what’s up after the first inning.

Walk props are going to be approved however. The narratives are endless about Dodgers patience vs Yankees trying to get you to chase outside. Fear of Soto, Ohtani etc. Bad Buehler, Flaherty control vs short outings

If the series only goes 5 games we will be witness to an American sports tragedy. I saw someone evoke Bird Magic recently - it’s getting like that. Hard to live up to the hype.

As dumb as the Dodgers have been in previous years - I think they will make the adjustments necessary to hang in there. Typical Dodger foolishness like Kershaw out of the pen and other bullpen fail will be negated by actual talent this year.

I keep harkening back to Boston Dodgers World Series with all this excitement. I have memories of that being a great series. But it really wasn’t. It was only 5 games. What I am feeling is the 18 inning nail biting classic.

I’ve never watched a World Series during Thanksgiving dinner. It’s so late and that’s fucked up. Teams are running on fumes

Only thing I am rooting for is Ohtani. Guess then, indirectly, I am rooting Dodgers. Ohtani wins MVP but loses series? Still happy. Im so apathetic anymore with the $$$$ teams.

I just saw today is Soto's 26th birthday. Unreal. Between the world series win, multiple trades, etc....feels like he's been in the show for a decade+.

The Dodgers allow me a quality of life that you are denied. Sad

Soto may end up with more “real” AAV than Ohtani

We are living in an inflationary decade but Ohtani $35m/yr vs Soto $50m?

It’s worth dialing back the Time Machine and recalling 19 year old Soto. Just nuts

We will see. Soto pay day and Ohtani GOAT MLB player.

Here are the things that worry me as a Dodgers fan, as we sit less than an hour from game time.

Yes, I am at home. Lowest ticket prices were $772, and cheapest one I'd sit in was $1500. Too much.

Judge/Soto/Stanton are beasts, and might be difficult for the uneven Dodgers pitching to deal with.

Judge has killed the Dodgers. In 10 career games, he has 8 HR (!!) and a .389 average. In 2024, he hit 3 HR in just 8 AB.

Over 26 games versus the Yankees in his career (surprised it's not more, but he missed a number due to injuries), Ohtani is hitting just .209 against the Yankees, though he does have 9 HR. He went 1/9 this year with 0 HR.

While the Dodgers pitching shocked everyone (including me) with 33 straight scoreless postseason innings, much of it was done with smoke and mirrors. Basically the Dodgers are not bringing a single killer pitcher to the table. Yamamoto is inconsistent. Flaherty's velocity is down, and he might be bad again tonight. Buehler... do I have to even say? And that bullpen, while overachieving this year (especially in the postseason), simply isn't a collection of great talents. It's a bunch of minor leaguers and journeymen who somehow cobbled together a good season. Holding down the bats of the hotheaded/immature Padres and the undertalented Mets is one thing Holding down the Yankees big 3 is another. Evan Phillips, who came into 2024 as the team's closer, was left off the roster.

With that said, the Yankees bullpen is not stellar either. And color me really really skeptical about Luke Weaver. Sure, he had a nice year, but look at his past two, featuring ERAs over 6.50. This guy is someone I could totally see the Dodgers tagging hard in a big spot at the end of the game. Mariano Rivera he ain't.

This might just be a slugging series, where both teams slam the other's pitching. As tough as it is to face Judge/Soto/Stanton, it's not like it's going to be a picnic for the Yankees to deal with Ohtani and the rest of what the Dodgers have to offer. I think some of the Dodgers' success will depend upon whether they're getting contributions from guys like Muncy, Will Smith, and Kike' Hernandez. And if Freeman can stay healthy. But they can't keep getting clobbered in the opening innings because their starting pitching sucks. That's not gonna fly here.

Morgan Freeman narrating the opening to the series feels wrong.

He's 87 years old and sounds it. While he had a great voice for narration in his Shawshank days (30 years ago now!!!), this is just sad to hear.

    Anyway.... here we go.

    Fuck.

Strike zone is tight (as they just said on the broadcast), which is bad for Flaherty. His velocity seems better though.

Soto walked on 4 pitches. Torres hit a bullet but right to Muncy. I'm scared.

Edit: Nice K on Judge though!
