Thailand is awesome in so many ways
My first trip there was in 1998 after I got off a ship in Singapore and then flew to Koh Samui via Bangkok to visit my dad. He had been living there for several years already
Its a lot different now but pure paradise in 1998…beachfront bungalow for 12 bucks a night…4 dollar plates of jumbo shrimp and pad thai…turquoise waters and white sands….and a great nightlife for a small island…I have very fond memories of my short 3 weeks there riding a scooter all over the island….its ruined now of course but was a hidden gem not so long ago
Last time to Thailand was EPIC when I was still shipping….we had 5 days in port about an hour bus ride from Pattaya Beach which needless to say is basically like Disneyland for grown ups…I went to town every night there and whiffed through a bunch of money and partied my ass off…the captain was like how do you do it but hey that was a rare opportunity for a paid vacation
Last stop was in Phuket which is similar to Pattaya but a lot more mellow vibe all around…unique in its own way but still memorable.
The best thing about Thailand by far is the people…they are collectively warm, friendly, and generous. You can buy a nice modern high rise condo in either Pattaya or Phuket for like 30K, but the trick is circumventing strict VISA and residency laws for gringos aka white people
Anyway I had a total blast there and would highly recommend it…here’s a few vids from my last trip there about 5 years ago.
