    Pet Sounds or Rubber Soul?

The real catalyst for Pet Sounds was the U.S. version of The Beatles' album Rubber Soul, which was released that December in time for the Christmas market. (The British version of Rubber Soul was edited prior to its release in the U.S.A. to emphasise its folk rock feel that critics attributed to Bob Dylan and The Byrds.)

Wilson later recalled his first impressions of the groundbreaking album:

"I really wasn't quite ready for the unity. It felt like it all belonged together. Rubber Soul was a collection of songs ... that somehow went together like no album ever made before, and I was very impressed. I said, "That's it. I really am challenged to do a great album."

I would say Pet Sounds > rubber soul, but highway 61 revisited released before these blows them both away imo

IMO I think Pet Sounds is better than any single Beatles album but the Beatles are far superior.

Don't get all riled Beatles faggots, just an opinion.

If someone asked me which Beatles album Pet Sounds was inspired by, I would have likely thought Revolver.

(Revolver > ) Rubber Soul > Pet Sounds

There was no George Harrison equivalent in the Beach Boys.

I went with the Beatles. Pet Sounds had huge huge advancements in sound recording techniques, which the Beatles freely admitted to stealing/using. Pet Sounds is like first skyscraper -- a huge a achievement that changed the face of music. Then the Beatles take that achievement and perfect it.

It is also weird to me that the Beach were worried about the reception to "God Only Knows." Considering what you can put in a song today, it is funny they we're worried the mention of God in a pop song might get them in trouble.

For Dylan I am partial to

"Blowin' in the Wind" – 2:48
"Girl from the North Country" – 3:22
    "Masters of War" – 4:34
    "Down the Highway" – 3:27
    "Bob Dylan's Blues" – 2:23
    "A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall" – 6:55

    Side two

    "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" – 3:40
    "Bob Dylan's Dream" – 5:03
    "Oxford Town" – 1:50
"Talkin' World War III Blues" – 6:28
    "Corrina, Corrina" (Traditional) – 2:44
"Honey, Just Allow Me One More Chance" (Dylan, Henry Thomas) – 2:01
    "I Shall Be Free" – 4:49

I was going to post Don't Think Twice but when you search youtube Dylan isn't in the top ten for his own song. Ke$ha's cover is #2 on the list. Our country is fucked.

I don't know if this was posted here, but I remember the caption.

Beatles all day all night. No matter how great that Beach Boys album is, when I get a craving to hear old music, it's almost always the Beatles.
