I was always amazed when people treated Hamas like anything but a terrorist organization. That's all it is, and ever will be. To actually come in and murder hundreds (or more?) of random citizens is disgusting.

Sometimes their enemies will purposely place military personnel or equipment in civilian areas, counting on Israel to be humane enough not to bomb those areas. This obviously puts Israel in a horrible position.
The practice of targeting civilians is one long used by Arab states and terrorist groups.

There are various conspiracy theories out there.
The first claims that Israel let this happen on purpose, so they would have an excuse to attack Gaza.
The second claims that other middle east countries set this up, so Israel would destroy Gaza in response, and then they could justify an all-out war against Israel.
