    As usual, libatine only tells half the story.

    Florida's Parental Rights in Education act, which was incorrectly called the "Don't Say Gay" bill by some liberals, originally banned instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade. This was a no-brainer, and any reasonable person who read the bill was likely to agree with it. Some conservative media figures did tests of this on the streets of Florida, first asking people if they supported the "Don't Say Gay" bill, of which many said no. Then they asked if they'd support a ban on teaching sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade, and most of them said yes.

    However, in 2023, the law was changed to extend all the way through 12th grade, which is a lot more controversial. By 12th grade, many kids have already had sex, and by this point they are all very aware of alternative gender identities and sexualities. So you're definitely not corrupting innocent minds by discussing this stuff in 12th grade.

    My concern, however, would be HOW this stuff is taught. When Benjamin reaches 12th grade, I would not like him being taught in official high school coursework that there are 100 genders, or that it is normal to choose your own gender. I do not feel that any sort of controversial political/social theories should be taught in public schools -- even high schools -- unless the other side is fairly presented. Otherwise it runs counter to how some parents are trying to raise their kids, and parental rights should always supersede the desire for teachers to spew propaganda.



    So back to the AP Psychology course "banned" from Florida...

    Apparently the AP Psychology coursework contains some gender identity and sexuality segments, which violate the new Florida law. The state asked The College Board to change the course, and they refused. Therefore, the course can't be offered, as a portion of it will be excluded, and the students would not be receiving a complete course. A similar course can be taught without this stuff, but it can't be called "AP Psychology".

    I would have to see the section of the course in question, in order to determine whether or not I agree with its exclusion. If it simply teaches the existence of there alternate sexualities or genders, without turning it into propaganda, I'd be fine with it. If it treats choosing your own gender as a totally normal thing, then I'd have a problem with it.


    In general I do disagree with the 2023 modification to the law. I liked the original version of the law, which outlawed this stuff in grades K-3 (so you didn't have kindergarten teachers teaching kids about being "pansexual" and "non-binary"), and which allowed "age-appropriate" discussion of sexuality and gender from 4th through 12th grade. Extremely reasonable, and most agreed with it, even many Democrats.

    This new law about not teaching the stuff at all is a step too far, though I'm assuming it was done in order to stop the gender propaganda nonsense from infecting high schools.

    All I can tell you is people hate it here. Property values are crashing. DeSantis barely won the last election and absolutely nobody around here likes him nor do they like this law at all.


    Actually none of the above is true in real life. Places are getting crowded and property values are going up so fast even in this rate environment that its screwing up the economy in ways thats not easily fixed becusse we simply don't have the land to create inventory/space.

    But the sky is falling and everyone hates it here…… if it makes you sleep at night.

    I’m huge on celebrating states rights and the differences between states. Pandemic response and keeping the Fed’s out of these decisions crystallized my feelings in this regard.

    Florida is not for everyone. Neither is California as another example. . Different laws, values, culture etc. as our maker intended.

    Florida or California can ban whatever public school subjects the voters or their representatives wish. I do not care. Public schools are like educational welfare for the most part. Be thankful for whatever you are given

    I love that DeSantis is assembling his own militia. I think every state should consider the same. The next pandemic or civil emergency when states choose to protect their borders (Massachusetts did) now you’re ready with helicopters and light armored vehicles.

    When one idiot Governor screws with another state appropriate military response is good to go.

    I do not want to make America Florida though. That’s a dopey message that resonates with maybe only Floridians. It’s also condescending.

    DeSantis keeps telling me what he did in Florida. That’s like telling me how many points you scored in your junior year of high school basketball. Idc. Tell me about your national and international polices… if you have any.

    As much as I'd like DeSantis to be President in 2024, it's not going to happen.

    He's the guy killing the $5/$10 game at his local casino, goes to Vegas to play $25/$50, keeps losing, and says to himself, "I'm going to stay the course, there's a reason I won so much back home!"

    I'm seeing too much gimmickry from him, and too many examples of him veering into extreme territory in order to yank voters away from Trump. The result is worse governance than before, when he was very pleasantly logical and fair.

    Before, he set abortion limits at 15 weeks, which was popular and reasonable. Now it's 6 weeks, which most people (including me) think is too early.

    Before, he stopped gender ideology and sexuality teaching of students younger than 4th grade, and made sure it was age-appropriate from 4th-12th grade. Again, the vast majority of parents agreed with this approach. Now he's trying to keep it completely out of schools.

    Plus he's doing wacky things like suing Anheuser-Busch, which is just moronic. First off, they already took their lumps for the Mulvaney thing, and are still taking those lumps from consumers and social media to this day. No need to pile on further. Second, AB is NOT a woke company! It is actually a centrist company which stupidly gave woke marketers too much autonomy. I don't mind the consumer backlash, as a woke sacrificial lamb was necessary here, given how corporations have gone performative left, simply believing that the right could not give them any consequence. However, there's no need for Desantis to pile on a silly, frivolous lawsuit. Just looks petty.

    Even the Disney stuff, which I understood (and agreed he was fucked over by Disney), also looks petty. It's a fight he shouldn't have picked if he had aspirations beyond governor of Florida.

    I just don't think he understands what it takes to win a Presidential campaign. It's a very different animal than winning Florida.

    Not that much because I don't believe he has a chance.

    What I saw first was reasonable, but then I read that as President he will pardon Trump of any conviction, which is pretty ballsy to say. He should only decide to pardon based upon the facts which would justify pardoning. To say it at this point in the process is just pandering.

    However, there is suspicion that Vivek is just a Trump mole, and is there to siphon votes from DeSantis. This idea, of course, would have been hatched before DeSantis started beating himself.

    Twelfth grade?

    Listen, these are the same Evangelical retards who, at some point in their lives, didn't even want kids to learn about contraception in public school. As if that weren't enough, they're not huge fans of social safety net programs (except those that benefit them, such as Medicaid) and are staunchly anti-abortion. If nothing else, they should want people to be homosexuals. Less children the Government has to pay for that way.

    Florida's the seventh oldest median age state and attracts retirees. It comes as no surprise that people like Trump and DeSantis would appeal to them. These social conservatives, and other Evangelical Conservatives, will be dead not very long from now. In the meantime, what young people there are in Florida will grow to resent the, "Everyone must live as if Christian...even though Christians themselves usually don't," standard and they will grow up to be socially liberal.

    After the better part of social conservatives die, then the Republican Party will either join the Libertarian Party, or more likely, just become de facto Libertarian. We can hope that this happens soon enough to unfuck our fiscal situation and national debt in time to be better poised when this becomes a One World economy, at least, de facto...but they probably won't die soon enough for that and we'll just remain fucked.

    How would the other side, "Be fairly presented," when it comes to homosexuality? The other side literally consists of, "God says you shouldn't do that." How the fuck do you go about presenting that in any place that even claims to be based on education?

    I do agree that they shouldn't, 'Normalize,' transgenderism other than to the extent of saying, "This is what transgenderism means and some people are transgender." They definitely shouldn't actively encourage students to become transgender or try to steer them that way...so that is something of a balance. Even then, I'd see the topic as only necessary in an elective, "Human Sexuality," course. I don't really see any great need to teach about transgenderism in health class, or anything.

    On the other hand, you'd almost have to cover it if your U.S. History courses go all the way up to recent history.

    Additionally, in Civics/Government/Current Events classes...how can you possibly avoid it? If you're not talking about the transgender debate, then you are literally failing to discuss Current Events as it dominates the news cycles...largely thanks to fat Evangelical dumbass Ron DeSantis. He says he's a Catholic, but he'd be a better fit as a Baptist.

    The last few years have been really dumb and I honestly wouldn't mind if someone killed him.* At least we wouldn't have to discuss this stupid shit that legitimately affects only 0.5%-1% of the population every single day of our fucking lives. (I don't include non-binary as 'legitimate' because it doesn't really convey anything...it just tells me what you are not. You are also not a cactus, unless you identify as a cactus, I guess. Not helpful or informative.)

    *I don't want him to be killed; I'm simply saying I wouldn't care if he was. I also am not suggesting I would ever do it; quite frankly, I'll never go to Florida again if it can be avoided. I hate that state. I hated it before all of this crap. Some of the women are pretty hot, but that's where it begins and ends for me.

    On the subject of, 'Parental Rights,' you have the parental right to either homeschool your child or send them to a private school, so all of these parents whining about, 'Rights,' should quit bitching. They do have rights. Send the kids to a private Christian school. Perhaps the private schools can make attending more affordable for students so affected, except they won't, because they care about money...not about what kids are being taught in public school. If anything, they have increased their tuitions.

    In the meantime, on the AP course, conservatives have repeatedly referred to, "Gender dysphoria," as a legitimate psychological issue, so what possible reason is there to not allow that to be covered in a Psychology class? A Psychology class, I might add, that I assume is an elective and not a required course anyway.*** I just saw a video yesterday that referred to some sort of bizarre fetish about men envisioning themselves as women that has some technical name that I can't remember. This was on a Conservative channel. How would such a thing NOT be relevant to psychology or human sexuality?

    You know, I used to not be able to tolerate the verbiage about Conservatives wanting to, 'Erase,' people as I saw it as ridiculous hyperbole. As ever, when it comes to Evangelical Christians, as it turns out...no matter how negative a light that you portray these people...you'll almost always be right. It's truly amazing how they will never stop trying to force their religious perspectives, via the Government, no less, on all of society...despite the fact that it causes them to lose in most venues.

    Do they even care to discuss economics anymore? Fuck. Republicans are going all-in on social issues...the one area where they have never been particularly good, have never had reasonable arguments and are generally unpopular.

    ***Actually, as an AP course, it is, by definition, not required.

    If DeSantis had the slightest grasp of psychology and how to interact he would have a chance.

    It's still a cult party beholden to an abject criminal but to see him crashing this hard is incredible. Hammering woke and brazenly swinging your dick around in a trash state like Florida works but clearly does nothing for a national audience.

After you have failed to do that, please fail to explain to me why such funding should necessitate that Christians find high school curriculum acceptable.
