Venetian scamming dealers out of pay...

Saw this on Boski's vlog at the 18:19 mark. If the Venetian does not make their guaranteed dollar amount in a tournament the difference comes out of the dealers pay. (not verified)

    Chad Holloway posted this clarification:

This has been in place for many months and as I understand it:

    - It’s more of a profit share system, meaning if tournaments are a success and draw big fields, then the dealers are rewarded and actually get paid more than they used to. However, if a tournamnet fails to meet the GTD then that 3% usually given to dealers is used towards overlay (until it’s met).

    - Any tips that players leave for dealers does go to them and is not part of the program.

    - It was clearly communicated to all dealers in advance of its implementation. Nothing nefarious in terms of them doing this behind their backs.

    - It was a new system/program the room opted to try so that dealers have an opportunity to get more when the room thrives, but when it doesn’t then they don’t.

Not saying I agree with it, but these are the things I previously learned. I know some dealers there were unhappy about it, but also many were all for it as most of the time the tournaments do meet the GTD and they actually make more in the long run.

Whether or not that’s the case I suppose only their dealers would know.

Here is my take on the matter:

This is complete bullshit. The 3% taken out for dealers should ALWAYS go to the dealers. It should not be used to cover shortfalls in meeting the guarantee.

The Venetian apparently told Chad that the dealers overall wanted this system, as it gives them substantially MORE than 3% when the tournament smashes the guarantee, but 0% when it fails to reach it. This serves as "profit sharing" in a way, because the dealers get a better-than-standard auto-tip when the tournament does well, and no auto-tip when it fails to turn a profit.

Most people don't decide to play (or not play) tournaments due to dealer performance, so this system seems arbitrary and doesn't make much sense.

Additionally, it completely abuses the concept of an auto-tip, as the Venetian pockets the auto-tip taken out of the prizepool just because a guarantee isn't reached, which essentially forces players to double-tip if they want the dealers to get any tips. That's a load of crap, and it fucks the players.

Imagine how mad you'd be as a customer if you were charged a mandatory 18% tip at a restaurant, only to learn that the owner was pocketing all of it if the restaurant had an unprofitable night. Even if the owner claimed to give generous bonuses when the restaurant had a good night, you'd still be pissed.

    Awful policy.

I would never treat my employees like this and would much rather lose the money to make up a missed guarantee on my end rather than take it from employees cut

House benefits massively from promoting a guarantee

It seems that the dealers there believe it will result in more money overall in their pockets at the end of the typical month, so they went along with it.

That's basically the counter argument here. "If the dealers are okay with it, and it makes them more money, who is it hurting?"

It's hurting the players. 3% is taken out of the prizepool for "tips" which the Venetian pockets, in the case where the tournament doesn't reach the guarantee. That's a load of bullshit. The proper thing to do in this situation is to either give the 3% to the dealers anyway, or to take 0% out of the prizepool, and tell the players that there's no auto-tip, and encourage them to tip on their own.

There should be no world where it's okay to take 3% in "tips" out of the prizepool and then the casino pockets the money. It is irrelevant if the dealers get a bonus in other better-drawing tournaments to make up for it. It's still dishonest and fucks over the players.
