This is something I learned in school, but I went to school a long time ago.
Strangely enough, my 11 year old son plays historical war based video games, and it seems the Youtube algorithm picked up on this, and he ends up watching a lot of historical war information, most of it WWII. But I don't know how typical this is.

if you didn't learn this in school, your school was super shitty. it's a super basic fact of WW2, and a deciding factor in the entire war.

A) None of that was or is in the elementary school curriculum.

FTR there is good evidence to support China had more fatalities than Russia but is not typically reported. Although unlike Russia a much greater proportion were civilian.

As a history major, I believe this to be true. Nobody knows exactly how many Chinese died in the war, especially if you include starvation.
