Yeah I was surprised to learn some years ago that Tony G was younger than me.
Always pictured him as someone several years older than I was, even back in the 2000s.
I think he had a difficult/stressful early life, which probably resulted in the premature aging. Or he's just one of those guys who always looked old.
About 39k people consistently watching this.
What is the normal crowd size watching HCL?
I'm seeing complaints in the chat that the game is boring, and that the players who are known for having big personalities (such as Tony G and JRB) are unusually quiet and subdued.
This is losing hype quickly.
Several people in chat begging for Airball.
Not Bart Hanson's fault. He's doing the best he can under the boring circumstances so far.
The consensus on Twitter is that the game is too deep, thus thwarting action.
The players are treating it like the WSOP Main early levels, where they are avoiding big spots unless super strong.
its as if poker was faggot all along.

half the players have their fingers up their nose, at least 2 of them are sick, and all of them are rubbing their fingers on their mouths.
im sure it will be fine tho.

Chat room being brutal. Nobody is enjoying this.
I just saw a comment, "THROW AN EXTRA CARD IN THE DECK ALREADY"
If this is the type of hand we're supposed to get excited about, we have a problem.

(In HCL's defense, this tweet was from Pokernews, not HCL.)
“The Chat” wasn't happy an hour before the game started. They knew they had an issue when they freaked out about Kessler agreeing play. Your point about being “too deep” is 100% right and it caused Kesslers Vpip to drop into the 40’s. Still better than most in the game but shows even he was playing scared to a certain extent.
“Chop it up chop it up” every one knew it was two straights.
They need an emergency meeting. Double the blinds and get all the all stars out there.
Btw - im fully onboard with the heat they are getting but my projection is they figure this out it finishes stronger than it started and every year going forward over merorial day weekend the hustler throws a million dollar game.
Becomes a pseudo tradition.
I'm not sure if I agree about the game being "too deep". Because of antes you have 18k in the pot before any bets. That's over 1.5% of buying which is larger than a normal 100bb game. The game is NOT DEEP AT ALL. So theoretically it should play similar, if anything more aggressively than a typical cash game because of opportunity to steal. Why that didn't happen is likely because people playing with backers money and don't want to piss them off, people tightening ranges because of stakes, people tightening raises because lots of people watching game. Also lets not forget for reference the typical HCL live stream games have horrible ridiculous fishy VPIPs. The lack of table talk simply because people took the game seriously and honestly good poker is boring TV. 40 percent VPIP always gonna be a fish. Was easy mark.
I'd love someone to run stats and see if nits were punished here for being so tight with the antes. I'm sure that will be done in a day or two.
To understand how important antes are and why they induce action consider this. If you fold an entire round with antes and blinds you are losing about 20k per round. Do that five times and you've lost 10% of your stack 100k.

i think people are using the word depth to refer to the psychological weight of having stacks that size, not the relative stack to pot ratios (which is the correct use of the term per your comment).
its playing like a 10/20NL b&m game where half the table has their case money on the felt and the rest are stupendously wealthy nits.

Everyone bought in for a million last night. So HCL can technically say they pulled off the “Million” $ game. But Rob is clearly speaking on behalf of the players. Seems like the right thing to do. In fact, Ryan/Nick may have their hands forced here. You can tell how much pulling this off for 5 days means to Feldman. But it will be better for the players and viewers for sure if they played a little smaller.

its a curiously difficult paradox to solve;
if they continue to stick with the "1m game" brand, the action will be fucking dreadful. but they have to keep hyping it up constantly and pretending like every checked down pot is a miracle of gamesmanship etc etc because at the end of the day, its all about celebrity and brand and engagement.
alternately they could lower the buy in, generate a ton of action, but then the whole premise of this being a unique / historical event is blown up.
they really painted themselves into a corner here.
and to make matters worse you have tony g saying 'yeah its nice to be here but im a bit tired because i spent the last week straight playing a millie buyin game in cyprus'.
hopefully with airball / polk shit gets irresponsibly entertaining.
anyway something that i realized last night is the genius of gabe kaplan was how understated he was. once the cards hit the felt, he did little to no hyping or crowd work. he would have been perfect for last nights game.
