A deranged homeless man named Janelle Hammell was "mad at the world" and decided it was time to "kill or be killed". He went into a Target, stole a knife, and then stabbed a random person to death on the street.
It turned out that victim was a professional poker player. Snow Robert Frog, age 38, known to some as "Frogger", was a limit holdem pro who played for years at Canterbury and Bellagio. I just played with him at Bellagio in February, and in fact he sat next to me. We had little interaction, and he seemed quiet.

His legal name was originally Jordan Jelinek, but it isn't clear whether he legally changed it to Snow Robert Frog. He did not go by his original name anymore. People who knew him from the limit holdem community described him as "gentle", "kind", and "a little bit unusual." He was an avid chess player, in addition to playing poker. In fact, he and another player at the table had an extensive discussion regarding chess last time we played together.
Sad story. Seems like a wrong place/wrong time murder.
