Can embed YouTube shorts now

JSTAT brought it to my attention a week ago that YouTube "shorts" (all videos less than a minute) were not embedding into PFA properly.

He was correct, and I was aware of this. The auto-embedder I wrote did not have a way to handle that. When I tried to quickly fix it last year, I failed, so I put it aside and forgot about it.

Tonight I took another crack at it, and fixed it. Now you can embed YouTube shorts the exact same way as regular YouTube videos -- just type (or copy/paste) the URL!

For example, take JSTAT's video at URL: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/2pHg0NGWlAc

You can either directly copy the URL, or you can use the "share" feature on the video, and then press "Copy". If you use the "share" feature, the URL will look slightly different. but either way works.

So then just paste the URL to your post, and it will auto-embed.





Feel free to try "embedding" YouTube shorts in this thread.

I had noticed this but thought it was youtube that didn't want them embedded, like they want you on their app watching shorts all day like losers on tiktok, but good to know

I was curious if the "Lollipop Guild" actors died early. Turned out only one did.

The one on the left was the youngest, born 1925, and was only 14 in the film. He died at age 35 in 1960.

The one in the middle lived all the way until 2018 (!!), and was 19 when appearing in the film. He lived until age 98.

The one on the right lived until 1985, but he was by far the oldest, having been born in 1902, and was 37 in the film. He lived until 83.

The one on the right living to 83 surprised me the most, because he seemed unhealthy in his movements, like his dwarfism was just a symptom of greater health issues. I guess not.

Druff, is there any way you can make the embedded window the short shows in be in taller portrait mode instead of tiny inside of an embedded YouTube window? I gotta squint looking at my phone screen to barely make out what happens in that Jennifer Tilly short.

I think this was the case at first. I remember looking how to embed them, and I was coming up with a blank.

Then I looked again today and it seemed you could do it, so I had to modify the embedding stuff I wrote to accommodate it.

I guess it's been embeddable since mid-2022, so I must have looked before that.
