This is it... LA is forecasted to get snow on Thursday/Friday

There's been lots of false alarms over the years, but the forecast has never been as strong as this one.

A big storm is coming to southern California on Thursday and Friday.

It's going to be unusually cold, and the snow level is presently forecasted for 1000 feet, which is far lower than I've ever seen it forecast. Many areas of LA are over 1000 feet, and many (such as the San Fernando Valley) are close to 1000 feet.

In February 2019, parts of the LA area got a little bit of snow, including about 2 miles from me, but it didn't get my house.

The last time snow fell in the San Fernando Valley was in the 1980s.

It has not snowed in downtown Los Angeles since well before I was born, but that will be possible on Friday.

Strangely, the news media is not picking up on this yet, for the most part. I've only seen KTLA Channel 5 mentioning it.

If you live in LA in the hills, you might be seeing white stuff all over your yard and the streets on Thursday and Friday.

Either way, over 2 inches of precipitation will fall, and the southern California mountains will get 2-4 feet of snow. The snow forecasted for 1000 feet is 1-4 inches, which is measurable and will stick for a little bit.

What do you like and loathe most about living in LA?

I must admit I wasn’t a huge fan after visiting, nice beaches though

Portland got hammered with over 10 inches Wednesday. I recently moved to the suburbs where quality of life is 100x that of Portland metro but still work downtown.

Thought I left work early enough to try and beat any rush, had started snowing heavily.

Left by 3:30, got home at 9:30 (normal 15 minute commute). About 90 minutes spent at a restaurant thinking I would wait it out. Know a few people who weren't as lucky as me and spent the night on the interstate.

Reminds me of my drive to my parents' house during the 1992 LA Riots. Took me like 3 hours to do what normally took 1.5, but many people took 6 hours to go 5 miles. My Thomas Brothers Guide and general knowledge of LA streets helped.

As far as today goes, no snow in any unusual places. Just lots of rain.

    Fail.

You still got that drone that “nice Asian boy” rescued for you from the wilderness? If so, can you fly it to get some good pics of the mountains near you if they get snow cover and post them here?

Snow was disappointing. Didn't happen at any unusual elevations or places.

Very heavy rain today with high winds, though. Trees are blocking roads around here, and nobody is coming out to remove them. Very ugly.

We only got a sllight dusting here in east coast ny. I didn't realize it was ice and going down a steep hill slid into a 180. Luckily no one was coming in opposite lane.

    We got hail here.

39 degrees right now with sporadic precipitation in the area, so I guess it's possible we could get snow.

Who’d a thunk the 25’ wall of snow behind my work station (Comet Chair at Heavenly) would become a tourist attraction:
