First of all thanks for allowing me to be a part of this forum. Secondly this is my 1st post so pls bare with me as I attempt to navigate.
I'm sure that many of u are familiar with DQJames. He started a contest, https://gleam.io/RvxfB/the-great-dq-giveaway, which HCL may or may not be a part of. The 1st of 2 winners, Ben Cooper, announced on DQ's Twitter on 2/14. One the the rules was "YOU MUST BE IN THE UNITED STATES TO ENTER". Mr. Cooper apparently lives in Canada.

Not that it matters but I've never seen or heard any announcements from HCL. I chimed in seeking clarification.

I’m surprised this giveaway didn’t ask for the last 4 of the social and a DNA swab. I don’t know what DQ does for a living, but he must have just acquired a very lengthy email/contact list that I’m sure is very valuable for prospecting. I believe it asked for full name and address. Also seemed like it gained access to my gmail account in some way. Nothing is free in this world.

As for the winner, I understand what you are saying but nothing will change. I’m sure as with most giveaways, the TOS allows DQ to change whatever he wants at his discretion. So unfortunately, it is what it is. As for the Hustler guys, they will just say they have no direct financial involvement in the giveaway. They just are giving the guy a seat on Max Pain Monday. Highly doubt anyone there will comment.

This is all I know. DQ admitted he's from Canada.

What I think happened here was the TOS was basically pretty generic. It stated that you must be in the US but the app did not actually have the functionality to block those from entering. This dude from Canada was chosen and people then saw he was from Canada. There is no proof that what DQ is saying about “announcements” is true. I think the kid was picked and they just said let’s just say we let Canadians in.

DQ is a well off guy clearly. His motives here are unclear but I do believe the list compiled of entrants is of value. I just don’t see that this was fixed. I think it was an oversight. However, upon drawing the dude from Canada’s name, I believe the right thing to do would of been to draw another name. Not backtrack and say we said things we didn’t say. So there should of been two winners drawn instead of 1.

@flopaSet. I do understand your frustration. I am at a time in my life my expectation is to never win any giveaway. But I was titled by the shady ass WPT Global giveaways. I had a rough last year and winning one of those would of been of good value to me. So I am not dismissing all your points. They are correct. But my expectations are probably different.

Thanks for the response. Not saying the contest wasn't legit however it wasn't well thought out. On one hand you have DQ who states that those outside of US can enter providing they pay for their airfare then a few days later he's posting the winner on Twitter stating airfare is taken care of. Additional the 2nd winner was supposed to of been announced on 2/27 and accounting to Feldman it was,...just not on Twitter lol.

Yeah I don't think it was rigged, just poorly handled.

JeffDime likely has it mostly right.

I believe they restricted it to US residents so they didn't have to worry about paying expensive airfare from Asia or somewhere else really far. Then they accidentally drew a guy from Canada and announced him as the winner. Rather than admitting the crowned an ineligible winner, they explained the airfare concern, and then threw in what was most likely a bullshit excuse that they allowed those from other countries to win if they paid their own airfare.

I don't think they allowed people to win and pay their own airfare because that would make them look cheap, so they probably just wanted to restrict it to the US, so it could be "all expense paid" without being too expensive for them.

Then they realized Canada and the US have roughly the same airfare, so they paid for it anyway.

Bungled big time, but not actually shady.

The smart thing in advance would have been to say, "Airfare only paid for North American residents only. Anyone outside North America will get a $XXXX allowance for airfare, and must pay the remainder on their own."

I just saw this on my timeline and just had to say something. Does DQ know we can’t root for a guy who is rich af flying around on private planes? Those chips 99.9% all come from people less well off than you. I don’t know. Maybe it’s just me, but seems to be a lack of self awareness when the rich guy posts chip porn.
