Used to live in Columbus in 1999 never northeast Ohio so more like Akron/Canton/Youngstown Ohio Red State

Lived in Worthington (Columbus suburb) from ages 7-10 brother.

Really only remember Ohio State football dominating everything. No other big impressions aside from crap winters but nearby Hocking Hills were dope at the time.

Oh wow very neat and did enjoy Columbus then and Ohio State remember Catfish Biffs (Ohio subs lol) was pretty good also saw O.A.R play on High St. then

O.A.R (Band) ended up after then becoming a bigger national act but they're from Ohio State well High St. where they got there following. Also for a while dated a girl from Mansfield so was in Lexington/Mansfield Quite a bit couple hours north of Columbus there. Dated an Ohioan lol a while ago anyhow was a good time then, and didn't hate Ohio.

While fatalities from train derailments are rare, derailments themselves are actually quite common. From 1990, the first year the BTS began tracking derailments and injuries on a yearly basis, to 2021, there have been 54,539 accidents in which a train derailed. That's an average of 1,704 derailments per year.

The DOT derailment defintion is so broad that’s why the numbers are so high. A single car slipping the track on one axle counts as a derailment. Those are the most common and it’s due to the piss poor maintaining being done across the country.

On a side note all you Biden Fans should be disgusted by what POTURD did yesterday which was to deny outright federal disaster aide for this mess in Ohio. Seriously?? Here’s the thing. The Feds can blow a trillion plus on Covid bullshit but they can’t intervene to help this mess with the trail derailment that’s likely going to turn into an EPA Superfund site. The Feds have the massive ability to do something here and then go after Norfolk Southern over the costs associated with it on the backend because sadly pretty sure NS isn’t going to do the right thing here. The way this whole thing was handled was a level 1 clusterfuck from a major hazmat standpoint.

If Desertrunner were here I’m pretty sure he would point out the numerous failures of the massive fire response and how this was handled. Yes the Vinyl Chloride needed to be dealt with it’s highly explosive and the potential for a conventional explosion rivaling a tactical nuke was definitely possible give then number of tanker cars and amount of chemicals present but in their rush to control the situation they didn’t take anywhere near the safety precautions necessary to prevent massive contamination as a result. Basic control and damning of chemical leaks even if you’re going to burn the stuff off is basic hazmat ops you learn in FF school not even at specialized hazmat technical training. The Incident Commander was in over his head clearly and either wasn’t thinking big picture (often referred to as tunnel vision) or deferred to somebodyelse who should’ve known better.

Hey Booster Hanson, love your poker commentary but I'm pretty sure that Article 1, Section 8, of the US Constitution charges the Fed Government to impose taxes to provide for “the general Welfare of the United States,” which should probably include use of a fund and agency created to deal with this kind of toxic mess. I also think that the government is in part responsible for this train disaster.

I think The Hanson Kid is being ironic. He prolly agrees EPA should clean up and assumes we are the no gubmint crew.

The only observation to be made about this mishap is that it is an example of the citizens of America having ZERO trust in their government or media. Which is more fatal than hexavalent chromium.
