Here goes the markup debate again... except this time it's not during WSOP.

Ryan Laplante is offering the Wynn main event (with a lot of satellite winners in it) for 1.5x (50%) markup.

Shaun Deeb, who has long disliked Laplante, for whatever reason, accused him of "scamming":

Basically, Laplante threw the gauntlet down and said he will "buy himself" from Deeb for 5% of any $3000+ event he plays, and 20% of anything less than $3000, which is kind of like a reverse stake. Deeb responded that he wanted to buy "all of [Laplante] for 2023", meaning he wanted to reverse stake 100% of Laplante's action!

So far nothing has been agreed to here. It is ballsy for Laplante to do this, though remember he runs a coaching service, so standing up to Deeb here and offering his own money to "prove" he's worth 1.5x markup might be good for business.


I think Deeb is actually out of line here. It's not like Laplante is a fish who lies about his results to get students. He has been a successful tournament player with a ton of volume, and I'm sure he's good enough to teach a lot to the students who pay him.

I seen this fight going around on Twitter and I must admit it was entertaining. You are probably right deeb may be out of line but I like the guy. He speaks his mind and will go after people. Most just sit back and say nothing even if they believe this mark up is criminal

I'm guessing she didn't get fired, but probably quit because of all the controversy around Hustler Casino Live and Nick himself. A lot of people gave her a hard time over that, and I'm guessing for her (mostly good) image's sake, she backed out of the gig.

Here was the discussion from earlier this morning, where Laplante accepted buying 10% of himself from Deeb (reverse stake) on all of Laplante's 2023 action. However, Deeb was concerned that Ryan will simply play easy low stakes tournaments in 2023 to fuck him, thus he wouldn't accept.

Probably right but she didn’t leave the show right away. She was still there and things had mostly quieted down about J4 gate when she was still there

I think it's kind of a bitch move for Ryan to alter his 2023 schedule in order to make it more likely to win the bet. That's against the spirit of the bet in the first place -- whether Ryan's 1.5x markup is correct or incorrect.

Ryan should play a schedule similar to 2022 (and that should have very specific terms in the bet), and should buy 10% of himself at 1.5x from Shaun.

If Ryan refuses this, he's not being honest about wanting to accept the bet.

If Shaun refuses this, he's not being honest about believing Ryan's 1.5x markup was wrong.
